To the directors of the yeshivah* of Kfar Chabad

in the Holy Land, may Hashem grant you long life,

Greetings and blessings,

I received your letter with pleasure. You announce to me that the inauguration of the yeshivah* building in Kfar Chabad will take place on the luminous date of 18 Elul, that of the birth of our master, the Baal Shem Tov, founder of Chassidus* in general, and of the Alter Rebbe, founder of Chabad Chassidus*.

The conclusion of your letter rejoiced me particularly. You tell me that Hashem has permitted you recently to multiply the number of your talmidim*. It is certain that the quantitative growth will also be qualitative. Our Sages say, indeed, that of a thousand talmidim* undertaking the study of the Written Law, one hundred will accede to Mishnah, and, among the latter, ten will have knowledge of Talmud, while one alone will teach[1].

All the more so is it thus in your yeshivah*, founded by my father-in-law, the Rebbe, and in which there are unified the revealed part of Torah and its hidden teaching, that is, Chassidus*, forming thus two lights. There also results an union between, on the one hand, the thousand talmidim* who undertake the study of the Written Law, linked to the world of Asiyah* — or, more exactly, which has been brought down to it, presenting from this fact simple ideas — and, on the other hand, the one who is able to teach Torah, symbolizing the highest perfection, since he knows how to determine its most just interpretation. It is said, in this regard, that "Hashem is with him, and the halachah* systematically retains his opinion."

The Name of Hashem employed in this last expression is Havayah, underlining that "He was, He is, He will be in identical manner," for He transcends nature and its limits while revealing Himself within it. And the halachah* governs material objects. There is therefore well, here again, a unification between the world of Asiyah* and that of Atzilus* such as they are found in Torah, that is, between the Written Law and Kabbalah. One can deduce all this from the beginning of Likkutei Torah on three parshiyos, page 3a.

May Hashem grant success to the yeshivah*, to its talmidim*, and to its directors. May their brain and their heart be a thousand times more refined[2], so that they be able to grasp and understand the revealed part of Torah and Chassidus*, that they be beacons capable of spreading the light of Torah and its luminary in all their entourage.

I address you my blessing that the directors of the yeshivah*, its talmidim*, and all those who participate in your committee be inscribed and sealed for a good and sweet year, with all the members of their family. Thanks to the dissemination of the wellsprings[3] outward, we will all merit the complete redemption, by our righteous Moshiach, very soon and in our days, Amen.

בנועם קבלתי מכתבם, בו מודיעים אשר ביום הבהיר יום ח"י אלול, יום הולדת כ"ק מורנו הבעש"ט מייסד תורת החסידות הכללית, ויום הולדת כ"ק רבינו אדמו"ר הזקן מייסד תורת החסידות חב"ד, מתכוננים לערוך חנוכת בנין הישיבה בכפר חב"ד, וביותר גדלה שמחתי מסיום מכתבם, אשר בזמן האחרון הרבה השי"ת את גבולם בתלמידים אשר בטח שהריבוי בכמות יגרום ג"כ להריבוי באיכות, וכידוע מרז"ל אלף נכנסים למקרא יוצאים מהם מאה למשנה, וממאה למשנה עשרה לתלמוד ומעשרה לתלמוד אחד יוצא להוראה, ובפרט בישיבתם שהיא מיסודו של כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע אשר בה מתאחדים תורת הנגלה ותורת הנסתר היא תורת החסידות שני אור, הרי זהו ג"כ התאחדות האלף שנכנסים למקרא, מקרא בעשי', היינו שנשפל עד העשי', וכמו בפירוש הפשוט הרי מקרא הם ענינים פשוטים והאחד להוראה תכלית השלימות לכווין האמת לאמיתתו אשר על זה נאמר שהוי' עמו, שהלכה כמותו בכל מקום, הוי', הי' הוה ויהי' כאחד שהוא למעלה מהטבע והגבלתה ונמשך דוקא בטבע, הלכה בענינים גשמיים היינו התאחדות עשי' שבתורה עם אצילות שבתורה, מקרא וקבלה, וכמובן כ"ז מלקו"ת לג' פרשיות בתחלתו דף ג' ע"א.

ויהי רצון מהשי"ת להשפיע הצלחה בהישיבה בתלמידי' והנהלתה להיות מוחם ולבם זכים אלף פעמים ככה להבין ולהשיג בתורת הנגלה והחסידות ולשמש מאור להשפיע אור תורה ומאור שבתורה בכל הסביבה.

בברכת כתיבה וחתימה טובה לשנה טובה ומתוקה להנהלת הישיבה ותלמידי' וכל המשתתפים בהועידה הם וכל בני ביתם שיחיו, וע"י הפצת המעיינות חוצה נזכה כולנו יחד להגאולה השלימה ע"י משיח צדקנו בב"א,
