Igrot Kodesh · Letter 1817 — Faith & Bitachon
Volume 6 · Letter 290
By the grace of Hashem,
1 Elul 5712,
Brooklyn,
I bless you and greet you,
I respond to your letter of 5 Menachem Av, in which you complain of your personality, the character traits of which do not satisfy you.
You will therefore learn by heart a few chapters of Tanya. When a bad sentiment awakens in you, you will recite mentally at least a few passages of these chapters. Thus, little by little, these bad sentiments will disappear. Subsequently, you will also succeed in pushing them away.
Without doubt you read each day Tehillim*, according to its monthly distribution. It would be good that, until the eve of next 19 Kislev included, you give a few coins to tzedakah* each day, before davening.
Next time, you will not forget to tell me what you study of the revealed part of Torah and of Chassidus*.
With my blessing that you learn Torah with yiras shamayim* and that you be inscribed and sealed for a good year,
