Igrot Kodesh · Letter 1813 — Health

Volume 6 · Letter 286

By the grace of Hashem,

1 Elul 5712,

Brooklyn,

Greetings and blessings,

I was satisfied to learn, thanks to my telephone interrogation and through the letter of ... that I received this very day, that your surgical intervention went well and that you are doing better, thank Hashem.

May Hashem grant that your state continue to improve, especially in these auspicious days, to which apply the terms of the verse[1] "I am to my Beloved and my Beloved is to me, He Who pastures His flock among the roses"[2]. Rashi explains, on this subject: "He leads them toward a good and agreeable pasture."

It is clear that it is so spiritually as well as materially. The initials of this verse correspond to Elul, and "just as the first[3] were favored by Hashem, the last[4] were also."

May Hashem grant you very soon a complete healing, so that you redouble your vigor in the study of nigleh and Chassidus*, and that you also influence your surroundings in this direction, with tranquility of mind and body.

With my blessing that you be inscribed and sealed for a good year, which, of course, also includes good health,

[1] Shir HaShirim 6:3.
[2] The initials of the first words of this verse form the word Elul.
[3] The first forty days, beginning from the date of the giving of the Torah, when Hashem transmitted to Moshe the Oral Law and at the conclusion of which the sin of the golden calf intervened.
[4] The last forty days, from Rosh Chodesh Elul until Yom Kippur, when Hashem pardoned the sin of the golden calf. By contrast, the middle forty days, those that followed the sin of the golden calf, were not favored by Hashem.
