To the directors of Yeshivas Lubavitch of Montreal,

may Hashem grant you long life,

I bless you and greet you,

In reply to your questions:

A) The study of the next school year will bear, in the measure of the possible, on the Talmudic tractate that will also be studied at Yeshivas Lubavitch of New York. This one will be chosen in these days, and I have asked that the decision that will be reached be made known to you.

B) You will arrange that the talmidim* having taken the good decision not to lead profane studies do not remain unoccupied during the moment of secular teaching. They will then have another study, or will revise the previous one. They must, before all, be supervised and not remain doing nothing.

C) You have no doubt set a program for the sacred studies of the talmidim* coming from France. I would be obliged to you for kindly communicating it to me.

D) As I have already said, I would like to know what efforts are being made, in a satisfactory manner, to verify how the talmidim* spend Shabbos and the festivals, in particular those of the month of Tishrei, which approaches.

Of course, one can envisage various ways of knowing it. If they all reside in the same neighborhood of the city, this will be easy. If they are dispersed, one can address to them, at least from time to time, a few words of encouragement. One cannot content oneself with speaking to them of the festival, a few days in advance.

E) If you have never taken such an initiative until now, one must not let oneself be affected by it and frightened, faced with a new situation. This represents, to be sure, an effort more for the directors and the teachers, but the talmidim* will be all the more interested in it.

One cannot therefore establish precise rules, say that this must take place in such and such a place. One must find the most efficient formula.

F) It is surely useless to remind you that the school period preceding the festivals of Tishrei must be devoted, by the talmidim* who have the capacities for it, to the study of the laws of this month. Furthermore, one must underline to all the talmidim* the content of this month. And, one will do likewise for Elul, of which a part has already passed.

With my blessing of success in your sacred mission, that you may be inscribed and sealed for good health, and in expectation of your good news,

במענה על שאלותיהם:

א) הלימוד לזמן הבע"ל יהי' אם באפשרי באחת המסכתות אשר ילמדו גם בישיבת תו"ת בנויארק, אשר זה יוחלט ימים אלו, ובקשתי שיודיעו אותם עד"ז.

ב) בטח יסדרו אשר אלו התלמידים שמתאים להכוונה לא ילמדו לימודי חול, הנה לא ילכו בטל בזמן לימודי חול, אלא שיהיו עסוקים אם בלימוד אחר או בחזרת למודיהם, ומובן אשר העיקר בזה ההשגחה שלא ילכו בטל.

ג) בטח כבר יש להם תכנית ע"ד התלמידים שבאו מצרפת איך לסדרם בלימודי קדש, ות"ח אם יודיעו הפרטים בזה.

ד) מתאים למה שאמרתי מכבר, אתענין לדעת ע"ד ההשתדלות באופן המתאים לדעת איך מבלים התלמידים את הש"ק והימים טובים ובפרט ימי החגים ומועדים דחדש תשרי הבע"ל, מובן אשר אפשר לסדר זה בכמה אופנים, אשר אם דרים במחוז עיר אחד, יהי' בקל יותר, אבל אם גם מפוזרים הם בכל העיר, יש להשתדל שעכ"פ איזה פעמים ישמעו דברי התעוררות וכו' ולא יסתפקו במה שמספרים להם בכמה ימים מקודם ע"ד החגים ומועדים.

ה) אם אפילו עד עתה לא עשו מעולם כזה, הרי אין להתפעל ולפחוד ואדרבה כיון שבזה דבר חדש, הרי אף שיוסיף בטרחת ההנהלה והמורים, אבל יעניין יותר את התלמידים והמחונכים, ולכן אין לקבוע בזה יסודות שצ"ל דוקא במקום פלוני ובזמן פלוני, כ"א להתחשב עם תועלת הענין...

ז) בטח למותר לעוררם ע"ד נצול ימי הלימודים שלפני תשרי ללמד את התלמידים השייכים לזה דיני חדש זה ולכל התלמידים עכ"פ דברי התעוררות בהנוגע להחדש (וגם בנוגע לחדש אלול אף כי כבר עבר חלק ממנו).
