To the Rav, distinguished chassid who fears Hashem

and devotes himself to communal needs,

Rav Yehudah Leib[1],

Greetings and blessings,

I duly received, in its time, your letter of 6 Menachem Av. You announce to me that all is well at your home, that you exert a positive influence on your community, and I thank you for this good news.

May Hashem grant that you progress in this domain, in conformity with the decision of our Sages, according to which one knows elevation in all that touches the realm of holiness.

The month of Elul approaches, and you will surely add to your teachings a class fostering yiras shamayim*[2]. It would be good that this bear on Chassidus*. And if your talmidim* have not yet reached the stage of no longer fearing such study, you are not obligated to reveal to them, at least in a first stage, the origin of your words[3], provided that they receive a message which, in the end, will know how to convince them.

No doubt you still possess the words spoken[4] last year on the subject of the arei miklat*[5]. Indeed, the initials of the words of the verse that evokes them form the name of Elul. I am sending you a copy of what was said this year, during the Shabbos on which the month of Elul was blessed. No doubt you will diffuse this message in the manner that befits.

בעתו קבלתי מכתבו מו' מנ"א, ות"ח על הבשו"ט אשר אצלם הכל שלום וכן מצליח בהשפעתו בקהלתו, ויה"ר שיוסיף בזה וכפסק רז"ל מעלין בקדש, ובטח בהתאם לחדש אלול הממשמש ובא יוסיף בהשיעורים שלומד איזה לימוד דיראת שמים*, ומה טוב שיהי' לימוד החסידות, ואם עדיין לא הגיעו מושפעיו למדריגה זו שלא יראו מפני לימוד כזה, הרי אין מחויב עכ"פ בזמן הראשון לגלות המקור משם נובעים דבריו, ובלבד שידעו הענינים אשר אז סו"ס יפעול עליהם.

בטח יש אצלו הר"ד דאשתקד בענין עיר מקלט, אשר, אנה לידו ושמתי לך ר"ת אלו"ל, ומוסג"פ העתק הר"ד דש"ק מברכים אלול דשנה זו אשר בטח יפרסם תוכנו באופן המתאים.
