To the Rav, distinguished chassid who fears Hashem

and devotes himself to communal needs,

Rav Chaim Hillel[1],

Greetings and blessings,

I was very happy to take knowledge of the efforts that you deployed to circumcise the children, among your talmidim*[2] who, for some reason, were not yet so. It is particularly important that a Yid contract the bris* of our father Avraham[3]. In addition, milah* has a primordial character, since thirteen brisos were concluded in relation to it.

Moreover, the Hebrew name of milah, מילה, is constituted by the initials of the words of the verse "who showed for us in the heavens?" and the last letters of these words form the divine Name Havayah*[4].

Furthermore, I am very satisfied to ascertain that you do not content yourself with assuming your functions of teacher, that you have perceived the essential and profound aspect of this teaching: the fact of drawing close the hearts of the children of Yisroel to their Father Who is in heaven.

May Hashem grant that you know success in your mission, that this be supernatural, that you exert an influence on your talmidim* and, through their intermediary, on the home of their parents, in order to illuminate them by "the candle (which) is a mitzvah and the Torah (which) is light."

With my blessing of success in your communal activities and in what concerns you personally, as also all the members of your family,

...נהניתי במאד ממ"ש במכתבו אודות ההשתדלות למול את הילדים מתלמידיהם, שמסיבות שונות לא נמולו עד עתה, אשר נוסף על גודל הענין להכניס איש הישראלי בבריתו של אאע"ה, וגדולה מילה שנכרתו עלי' י"ג בריתות, ומילה היא ר " ת מי יעלה לנו השמימה וסופי תיבות השם הוי', הנה נוסף ע"ז שמחתי במאד במה שאין מסתפקים במילוי תפקידם בתור מלמדים אלא שאחזו בהעיקר ובפנימית הדבר תכלית הלימוד שהוא לקרב את לבן של בני ישראל לאביהם שבשמים, ויה"ר מהשי"ת שתהי' הצלחה בעבודתם זו למעלה מן הטבע, ויפעלו בתלמידיהם ותלמידותיהם, ועל ידם ג"כ בית הוריהם להאירם בנר מצוה ותורה אור...
