Igrot Kodesh · Letter 1505 — Tzedakah

By the grace of Hashem,

9 Nissan 5712,

To the great Rav, distinguished chassid* who fears Hashem

and devotes himself to communal needs,

HaRav Nissan[1],

I greet and bless you,

I duly received your letter requesting a brachah*. Without making it a neder*, when I find myself, in these days, by the tziyun* of my father-in-law, the Rebbe, I shall give it reading. Without doubt, it shall arouse the Divine mercy for each of those whom you mention, in order to satisfy their material and spiritual needs.

May Hashem cause you to be able to convey to me good news, concerning your personal preoccupations and your public activities. Of course, for one who is invested with a communal shlichus*, the personal needs are different and more elevated than those of the man to whom such a role has not been entrusted.

The Torah gives many illustrations of this principle. Thus, Maseches Sanhedrin 18b says: "I might think that it concerns everything that pertains to him[2]. The verse therefore specifies to us that it is truly a matter of a great thing."

On the occasion of Pesach, which approaches, I would like to formulate the wish that you celebrate this Yom Tov, with the members of your family, in a kosher and joyous manner. And you shall prolong all this from this beginning of the year[3] over the entire duration of it.

קבלתי מכתבו פ"נ וכשאהי' - בל"נ - ימי אלו על הציון הק' של כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע אקראהו, ובודאי יעורר ר"ר על כאו"א מהנזכרים בהפ"נ שלו להמצטרך להם בשמיות וברוחניות, ויזכה השי"ת את כת"ר שי' לבשר בשו"ט בעניניו הפרטים ובענינים הכללים, כמובן אשר אצל איש כללי הנה גם עניניו הפרטים שונים המה ומעולים מענינם פרטים של איש פרטי, ויש מצוא הרבה דוגמאות לזה בתורה.

ובסנה' (יח, ב) אימא כל דבריו, קמ"ל קרא דבר גדול ממש.

ולקראת חג הפסח הבע"ל הממשמש ובא, הנני בזה להבעי איחולי שיחוג כת"ר עם כל ב"ב שיחיו את החג הבע"ל בכשרות ובשמחה וימשיכו זה מר"ה זה על כל השנה כולה.
