Igrot Kodesh · Letter 1489 — Marriage
Volume 5 · Letter 270
By the grace of Hashem,
5 Nissan 5712,
Brooklyn,
I greet and bless you,
I respond to your letter of Wednesday of Parshas Vayikra, in which you describe to me the state of the relations between your sister and your brother-in-law, as well as the dispute that opposes them.
I have said, for a long time, that I do not appreciate one's involving oneself in the personal affairs of a couple. It is not good to do so, including for the closest, such as a brother, a sister, a father, or a mother. Our Sages emphasize the great importance of harmony between a wife and her husband. When a third person intervenes, possessing herself a nefesh haElokis* and a nefesh habahamis*, peace, in general, is not reestablished by her démarche.
I do not wish to say more, for I do not know whether my words shall be followed by effect. If this is indeed the case, these lines shall suffice.
As for the question that you pose regarding this dispute, know that there exists a Jewish law, which can be established by consulting the chassidic Rabbanim*. And may Hashem bless His people with peace.
With my brachah* for a kosher and joyous Yom Tov of Pesach,
