By the grace of Hashem,

To the chassid* who fears Hashem and

devotes himself faithfully to communal needs,

HaRav Moshe HaKohen[1],

I greet and bless you,

I have received, through our friend, who devotes himself to communal needs and to the service of Hashem, HaRav Yosef Flyer[2], the letter that my father-in-law, the Rebbe, addressed to you on 13 Teves 5710. There it is said: "You shall continue to preside over the Shaarei Tefilah Bnei Reuven shul, and Hashem shall grant you hatzlachah*."

Rav Y. Flyer informs me of your doubts regarding this formulation. What does "continue" mean? You think that you must do this only for some time. I find no foundation for this interpretation, since no mention of it is made in the letter. Do not enter therefore into all this, and let Hashem arrange matters. If your candidacy is proposed for another mandate, do not intervene and signify your agreement. Without doubt, this will be the most fruitful, for yourself and for the shul.

Of course, when you shall be elected president of the shul, in a good and fruitful moment, it would be good for you to strive to dwell near it, in order to set aside any unnecessary fatigue and, in place of this, to reserve your efforts for what is useful to the kehillah* and to each individual.

The Yom Tov of Pesach is approaching, and it is the occasion of many preparations in Jewish homes. These are essentially of two kinds. One must remove all that is forbidden on Pesach and introduce what is then necessary.

May Hashem grant to each of us that it be likewise in the spiritual dimension. May each Jew and each Jewess remove from his domain that which is forbidden to him, so that one cannot see it nor find it[3], not even in a hidden manner. Likewise, we shall introduce into our domain all that is necessary to serve Hashem, while being truly free. Our Sages say, indeed, that "only he is free who devotes himself to the study of Torah."

... ע"י ידידנו עוסק בצ"צ ובמלאכת שמים מוה"ר יוסף שי' פלייער קבלתי מכתב כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה אליו מי"ג טבת תש"י אשר בו כותב, וזלה"ק וימשיך נשיאותו בביהכ"נ שערי תפלה בני ראובן והשי"ת יצליחו וכו', והר"י שי' פלייער כותב שמסתפק הוא בפירוש הדבר, מהו ענין ההמשך, ורוצה לפרש שזהו לזמן ידוע ולא יותר, אבל אני איני רואה כל יסוד לפירוש זה, כיון שהדבר כתוב סתם, ולכן לדעתי אין צריך הוא להתערב בזה וימסור הדבר בידי שמים, היינו שאם יעמידו את הקאנדידאטור שלו גם לזמן הבע"ל, לא יתערב בזה כלל וכלל ויסכים על העמדתו, ובטח יהי' הכל בהצלחה לטוב לפניו ולהבית הכנסת, ופשוט שכאשר יבחרוהו בשעה טובה ומוצלחת לנשיא ביהכ"נ אפשר כדאי להשתדל לגור בסביבת ביהכ"נ כדי למעט בטרחא שאינה נצרכת, ותמורת זה להשקיע הכחות בדבר המועיל לרבים ולפרט.

ולקראת חג הפסח הבע"ל אשר רבה ההכנה בכל בית ישראל, וכללותה בשתים להוציא הדברים האסורים בפסח ולהכניס הענינים הצריכים לפסח, הנה יזכנו השי"ת את כאו"א מאתנו שיהי' כ"ז ג"כ ברוחניות, להוציא את הדברים האסורים לכל בן ובת ישראל מרשותו עד שבל יראה ובל ימצא, היינו שבסתר ג"כ לא יהי' ולהכניס לרשותנו את כל הדברים הנצרכים כדי לעבוד את ה' מתוך חירות אמיתית וכמרז"ל אין לך בן חורין אלא מי שעוסק בתורה.
