To the great Rav, distinguished chassid* who fears Hashem,

HaRav Moshe[1],

I greet and bless you,

I respond to your letter of 18 Adar, in which you inform me that your daughter Channah has had a daughter, whom she has named Rivkah.

I express to you, by the present, my brachah*, a brachah of mazel tov. She shall raise her, with her husband, to Torah, to the chuppah*, and to good deeds, in moral and physical tranquility.

In conformity with the teaching of the Rebbe Rashab, our custom is to say, even for the birth of a daughter, "to Torah[2], to the chuppah, and to good deeds." Our Sages explain, indeed, in Maseches Berachos 17a[3]: "Wherein consists the merit of women? They lead... they send... they wait."

I have read with satisfaction in your letter that you give shiurim* of Torah in your shul, some of them bearing also on Chassidus*. But I am somewhat surprised that you give me no precision regarding these shiurim of Chassidus during the week. There should be at least one, on the Tanya. Our Sages say that three days must not pass without one's hearing words of Torah. And it must be the same regarding Chassidus. But perhaps this is only an omission on your part, and doubtless you teach Chassidus also during the week.

Surely there are also farbrengens*, from time to time, in the shul, although you do not speak of them. It is clear that they must take place each Shabbos Mevarchim*[4], in conformity with the decision of my father-in-law, the Rebbe.

You wish to receive the text of the sichos* of the Shabbos that blesses the month, and your request is justified. But what can I do? I have a considerable workload, to which are added my occupations, which absorb all my time. In spite of this, I strive to do it[5], to the fullest extent possible. I enclose for you the chassidic maamar* of 10 Shevat and the sichah of the fifth candle of Chanukah, whose translation into Hebrew I recently reread.

I enclose for you a copy of the letter addressed to all, on the occasion of Yom Tov of Pesach[6]. It would be good to disseminate it, in the appropriate manner, for it has a general content, which does not concern only the chassidim, but applies to all.

With my brachah for a kosher and joyous Yom Tov of Pesach and for hatzlachah* in your sacred shlichus*,

במענה על מכתבו מח"י אדר, בו מודיע אשר לבתו מרת חנה תחי' נולדה בת ונקראה שמה בישראל רבקה תחי'.

הנני בזה להביע ברכתי ברכת מזל טוב ותגדלה ביחד עם בעלה שי' לתורה לחופה ולמעשים טובים מתוך מנוחת הנפש ומנוחת הגוף.

ידוע מכ"ק אדמו"ר (מוהרש"ב) נ"ע אשר מנהגנו הוא לומר גם בלידת בת לתורה לחופה ולמעשים טובים, עפ"י מרז"ל (ברכות יז, א) נשים ב[מאי] זכיין, באקרויי כו' באתנויי' כו' ונטרין כו'.

בנועם קראתי במכתבו ע"ד הקביעות עתים לתורה אשר בביהכ"נ שלו בכלל ומהם חלק השיעורים בדא"ח, ולפלא קצת שאינו מזכיר מאומה ע"ד איזה שיעורים בדא"ח ולכה"פ תניא במשך ימי השבוע, וכידוע מארז"ל שלא יהי' ג' ימים בלא תורה הנה צריכה להיות הנהגה כזו לכה"פ גם בלימוד דא"ח, ואולי אין זה אלא השמטת הקולמוס ולומדים דא"ח גם בימות החול.

אף שאינו מזכיר מאומה עד"ז, אבל בטח עושים מזמן לזמן גם בתועדות בבית הכנסת, ופשיטא שעושים כזה בכל ש"ק מברכים החדש וכתקנת כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע.

בטח צודק הוא בבקשתו ע"ד שילוח השיחות דש"ק מברכים וכיו"ב, אבל מה עלי לעשות עמוס אני עבודה עוד יותר ע"ז טרדותי הגוזלות את זמני וכו' וכו' ואחכ"ז משתדל הנינ כפי האפשרי, ומוסג"פ המאמר דיו"ד שבט וכן שיחת ה' חנוכה שהגהתי את ההעתקה בלה"ק זה לא כבר.

מוסג"פ העתק מכ' כללי בקשר לחגה"פ הבע"ל וכדאי לפרסמו באופן המתאים, כי הוא ענין כללי הנוגע לא רק לחסידים או לאנ"ש כי אם לכל.

בברכת חג הפסח כשר ושמח והצלחה בעבודתו בקדש.
