Igrot Kodesh · Letter 1485 — Faith & Bitachon

By the grace of Hashem,

I greet and bless you,

You write to me that you have distanced yourself from the chassidim* and that you regret it. As you know, our Sages say that "all is in the hands of Hashem, except for yiras Shamayim*." It depends therefore only upon you that you draw close again, and "one who says he has labored and succeeded, one must believe him." Nevertheless, according to the expression of the Tanya, in chapter 42, one must, for this, imitate one who seeks a precious treasure buried at the bottom of the earth, and therefore does not spare his effort[1].

As I have recalled several times, my father-in-law, the Rebbe, says that the present period immediately precedes the coming of Mashiach*. Each instant is therefore particularly precious, and one must not waste it by being bitter and asking why the situation is what it is, why it is not better.

Consequently, each instant must be devoted to the effort, toward oneself and toward the other. Thus, one can verify that bitterness has no meaning. For when one seeks the truth, one obtains success, for oneself and for others. Moreover, we have received a promise from the Alter Rebbe[2], as the letter of my father-in-law, the Rebbe, printed at the end of Sefer HaKitzurim on the Tanya, page 122, says. For, thanks to his mesirus nefesh*, the Alter Rebbe obtained from the Heavenly Court that those who are bound to him and follow his way should systematically have the upper hand, in everything that concerns Torah, yiras Shamayim, and good conduct.

... מ"ש שנתרחק מאנ"ש ומצטער ע"ז, הנה ידוע מרז"ל שהכל בידי שמים חוץ מיר"ש ובמילא אין זה תלוי אלא בידו להתקרב ויגעת ומצאת תאמין, אלא שצריך להיות כמבואר בתניא פרק מ"ב, כדרך שמחפש אדם מטמון ואוצר הטמון בתחתיות הארץ שחופר אחריו ביגיעה עצומה,

וכבר אמרתי כמה פעמים שידוע פתגם כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע שעתה הוא זמן תכוף קודם ביאת המשיח וכל רגע ורגע יקב במאד ואין לבלות הזמן על עננים של מ"ש וחיפוש אחרי טעמים ונמוקים מפני מה מצב באופן כזה ולא טוב יותר, כ"א צריך לנצל כל רגע ורגע לעבודה הן בעצמו והן בזולתו, ואז המילא רואים שאין כל יסוד להמרה שחורה, כי כשמחפשים את האמת מצליחים הן בנוגע לעצמו והן בנוגע לזולתו, ובפרט שמובטחים אנו ע"פ הידוע הבטחת אדמו"ר הזקן (הובא במכתב כ"קמו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללהה נבג"מ זי"ע בסוף ספר קיצורים לתנא סוף ע' קכ"ב) שבגלל המס"נ שלו, פסקו בב"ד של מעלה אשר בכל ענין של תורה ויר"ש ומדות טובות תהי' יד מקושריו (של אדמוה"ז) והולכי בעקבותיו, על העליונה...
