Igrot Kodesh · Letter 1483 — Marriage

By the grace of Hashem,

3 Nissan 5712,

Brooklyn,

I bless and greet you,

You inform me that you have decided to become engaged to Mr. ... I express to you, by the present, my brachah* that this be in a good and fruitful moment, with a good mazal, materially and spiritually.

You doubtless know the responsibility of the woman, who is the akeres habayis*. Our Sages say, in Maseches Yevamos 62b, that brachah is drawn there through her, and the Likkutei Torah explains it, at the end of Parshas Berachah.

It is clear that this brachah is at once material and spiritual. And Hashem does not ask the impossible. He therefore grants to the woman a heightened binah*, in order to organize her home. For this, she must, beforehand, prepare herself, in the best manner, to build a Jewish home, filled with "the candle (which) is the mitzvah and the Torah (which) is the light," as well as with the luminary of the Torah, which is its profound teaching, namely Chassidus*.

במענה על הודעתה שהוחלט אצלה לבאו בקשורי תנאים עם האברך מר... הנני בזה להביע ברכתי שיה' בשעה טובה ומצולחת למזל טוב בשמיות וברוחניות.

ובטח מכרת היא היטב בהאחריות המוטלת על האשר היא עקרת הבית, וידוע מאמר רז"ל אשר ברכה נמשכת בבית בשביל האשה (יבמות סב, ב ומבואר בלקוטי תורה סוף פ' ברכה), ומובן אשר הדברים אמורים הן ברכה בגשמיות והן ברוחניות, וכיון שאין הקב"ה בא בטרוניא עם בריותיו, הרי בינה יתירה ניתנה באשה לסדר את הבית, על ידי הכנה המתאימה מקודם, לבנות ביתה בישראל ממולא בנר מצוה ותרה אור ומאור שבתורה זוהי פנימיות הורה תורת החסידות.
