To the Rav, distinguished chassid* who fears Hashem

and devotes himself to communal needs,

HaRav M.[1],

I greet and bless you,

A) I duly received in due course your letter of Tuesday of Parshas Tetzaveh.

B) I am sending you the letters for the talmidim* and talmidos* who visited me. You shall convey them to them in the proper way. It would be good for you to accompany them with a few words of explanation, in order to strengthen their hiskashrus* to the yeshiva[2].

Perhaps it would be good for these letters to be conveyed in the presence of the parents, or, at the very least, that the parents be informed of them. I leave the matter to your judgment.

C) It would be wise to explain to Mr. ... that the land and the people of Yisrael are not comparable to other lands and other nations. Their laws are therefore different, and we must rely only on the Toras Moshe* and not imitate the conduct of others.

On the contrary, it is necessary that "the nations walk by your light."[3] This applies also to Jewish life outside Eretz Yisrael, but still more clearly when one wishes to pursue one's life in Eretz HaKodesh*. One must then know that, before all else, one must have a way of life in conformity with the spirit of Torah, based upon its principles.

א) מכתבו מיום ג' תצוה קבלתו במועדו...

ב) מוסג"פ מכתביי להתלמידים והתלמידות שהיו אצלי, ובטח ימסור להם באופן המתאים. ואולי כדאי שיהיו ג"כ איזו מלים בתוספות הסברה משלו, כדי לחזק התקשרותם להישיבה. ואפשר מהראוי שמסירת המכתבים כו'ו תהי' במעמד ההורים, או שידעו מזה עכ"פ, ואל בינתו אשען.

ג) מהראוי שיסביר למר... שארץ ישראל ועם ישראל אינם דומים לשאר הארצות והעמים, ובמילא אף החוקים שלהם שונים הם, ועלינו להשער ען תורת משה ולא להדמות און נאכטאנצן חוקי העמים, ואדרבה, והלכו גויים לאורך, וזהו אפילו בנוגע לחיי ישראל בחו"ל ובפרט כשמייסדים סדר חיים באה"ק ת"ו, הרי ראשית לכל צריך לסדרם שיהיו בהתאם לרוח התורה ונעוצים ביסודי' וכו' וכו'.
