In general, machlokes* is detestable. Nevertheless, it is even more grave in Eretz Yisrael.
Our Sages say that it is precisely because of this aveirah* that we were sent into galus*[1]. It is therefore quite clear that all efforts are needed to reject controversy and all that could resemble it.
And when this form of evil is particularly strong in a certain place, this underscores how fundamental it is to break it. All efforts must then be mobilized in that place.

[כ' אדר ה'תשי " ב ]
... ואף שבכל מקום הנה שנואה המחלוקת ביותר הרי בארץ ישראל, אשר שם ענין זה יש לו מקום ביותר, וכמרז"ל שמפני חטא זה גלינו מארצנו, הרי עאכו"כ שצריכים בזה השתדלות ביותר להמנע ממחלוקת ואביזרייהו, כיון שתוקף קליפה זו במקום פרטי, מורה ג"כ על נחיצות שבירתה באופן מיוחד במקום פרטי זה...
