Igrot Kodesh · Letter 1426 — Health

Volume 5 · Letter 206

By the grace of Hashem,
18 Shevat 5712,
Brooklyn,

Greetings and brachos*,

I duly received your request for brachah*, through the distinguished chassid* who fears Hashem and devotes himself with eagerness to communal needs, Rav Moshe HaKohen Shayevitz[1]. He writes to me that you, Mrs. ..., underwent a surgical intervention, and that your husband, Mr. ..., is also not in perfect health.

When I find myself near the tziyun* of my father-in-law, the Rebbe, I will mention both your names so that you may obtain refuah* and better health. I hope that you will be able to announce a piece of good news to me and tell me that, both of you, you feel better.

In order to be able to contain the brachos of Hashem, one must possess broad keilim*, which are forged thanks to Torah and mitzvos*.

Here is my opinion. You should both take charge of the expenses of a male and a female talmid* attending an institution that bears the name of my father-in-law, the Rebbe, in our Eretz HaKodesh*, may it be rebuilt and restored by our righteous Moshiach.

You, Mrs. ..., before lighting the candles on Shabbos eve, will give tzedakah* for the Rabbi Meir Baal HaNess fund[2]. You, Mr. ..., will recite each morning, after tefillah*, a few Tehillim*, at least according to their monthly division.

It would also be very good to verify the mezuzos* of your house, to make sure that they are kosher, in accordance with halachah*.

Rav M. Shayevitz HaKohen also speaks to me, in his correspondence, of your sons, Messrs. ... and ... When I am near the tziyun of my father-in-law, the Rebbe, I will also mention their names, so that they may know success in their affairs, that they may have a Yiddishe* and happy existence, physically and morally. For that is indeed the success it is fitting to wish.

I am certain that you, the parents, make use of your influence in the appropriate manner to explain to your children that such conduct introduces clarity and fervor into Yiddishe life.

I hope that you will write to me to announce that you are doing better, both of you. I thank you in advance for this good news.

With my brachah,
