Greetings and brachos*,

I received with pleasure your letter of 13 Teves and the one that preceded it. On the occasion of your 31st birthday, I wish to grant you my brachah* that you have a long life and good years, in all senses of the term.

The kapitel* that you are about to begin reading[1], in accordance with the practice instituted by the Baal Shem Tov[2], concludes with: "Rejoice in Hashem and be glad, you tzaddikim*; sing joyously, all you upright of heart." And the preceding kapitel says: "For this shall every chassid* pray to You at a time of finding."

Such levels are lofty, as Toras Sholom remarks, on page 184[3]. Nevertheless, every chassid bound to the Rebbe can find their equivalent within himself, once he strengthens this hiskashrus* by permeating himself with the teaching of the nasi*[4], and very particularly by adopting the three studies that concern everyone and that bear on Chumash*, Tehillim*, and Tanya*.

Nevertheless, a chassid cannot content himself with acting for himself alone. He must, in addition, influence those around him, draw them close, encourage them, illumine them with "the candle (which) is a mitzvah and the Torah (which) is light," as well as with the luminary of the Torah, which is Chassidus*.

I thank you for the information you communicated to me about the farbrengen* of 19 Kislev. I am enclosing a list of suggestions[5] on the practices it is fitting to adopt for the day of the hilula*[6], 10 Shevat. You will surely disseminate them in the appropriate manner.

With my brachah of success in the influence you exercise on those around you, which will forge broad keilim* in order to elicit and to receive the brachos of Hashem, material and spiritual,

בנועם קבלתי מכתבו מי"ג טבת וכן את הקודם לו, וליום מלאת לו שלשים ואחת שנה, הנני בזה להביע ברכתי לאריכות ימים ושנים טובות עם כל הפירושים, ומתאים להקפיטל תהלים שצריך הוא עתה לאמר, הנה יאחז דרכו בדרך הבעש"ט וכסיום הקאפיטל שמחו בה' וגילו צדיקים והרנינו כל ישרי לב, כמ"ש בקאפיטל קודם לזה על זאת יתפלל כל חסיד אליך לעת מצוא, ואף שמדריגות נעלות הם (תו"ש עקפ"ד) בכ"ז מקצת ומעין שבכל הדרגות ישנם בכל מקושר וחסיד כיון שמתעסק הוא לחזק התקשרותו ע"י לימוד תורת החסידות של הנשיא ובפרט החזקתו בהשלשה שיעורים השוים לכל נפש בחומש תהלים ותניא, אבל מתפקידו של החסיד שלא להסתפק בפעולה בעצמו, וצריך להשפיע ג"כ על הסביבה - לקרבם ולעוררם ולהאירם בנר מצוה ותורה אור חדורים במאור שבתורה זוהי תורת החסידות.

ת"ח על הודעתו בנוגע להתועדות די"ט כסלו, ומוסג"פ ג"כ הצעות הנהגות ליום ההילולא יו"ד שבט הבע"ל, אשר בטח יפרסמם באופן המתאים.

בברכה להצלחה בהשפעה על הסביבה ושזה ישמש כלים רחבים להמשכת וקבלת ברכות השי"ת בגו"ר.
