Igrot Kodesh · Letter 1390 — Tzedakah

To the great rav*, distinguished chassid* who fears Hashem,
Rav Yisrael Zev[1],

Greetings and brachos*,

I received in due time your letter, by which you inform me that a study of Chassidus* of a few hours has been instituted in Yeshivas Midrash Shmuel[2]. It is a pity that you do not give me more details about this, but it matters little that we know about it here, provided that the study, there, is satisfactory.

Halachah* specifies that oil permeates everything. Now, the secrets of Torah are defined as oil. One must therefore let them penetrate into a part of the neshamah*. In the end, they will permeate it completely.

Our role consists in making an opening like the point of a needle. Then, undoubtedly, Hashem will keep His promise and will open the equivalent of the portal of the Beis HaMikdash*.

I am enclosing a list of practices[3] that it is suggested to adopt on the day of the hilula*[4], 10 Shevat. This will surely interest all those who frequent the beis hamidrash* and the yeshiva of which you speak in your letter.

בעתו קבלתי מכתבו, בו מודיע ע"ד קביעות שיעור שעות קצובות ללמוד דא"ח בישיבה מדרש שמואל, וחבל שאינו מודיע פרטים יותר בזה, ואין נוגע כ"כ ידיעת הפרטים כאן ובלבד שיהי' הלימוד על אתר כדבעי, ומתאים לפסק הדין אשר שמן מפעפע בכל מקום הרי גם רזין דאורייתא הנק' שמן אם רק חודרים במקצת לאיזה מקום בנפש הרי סו"ס מפעפע הוא בכולו, ותפקידנו הוא לפתוח לכה"פ פתח כחודה של מחט ובודאי ימלא הקב"ה הבטחתו שיפתח לנו כפתחו של אולם.

מוסג"פ הצעות הנהגות בנוגע ליום ההילולא יו"ד שבט הבע"ל, אשר בטח יעניין את כל אלו השייכים לביהמ"ד וישיבה שמזכירם במכתבו.
