Greetings and brachos*,

I reply to your letter, by which you inform me that your wife consulted a doctor and is following his prescriptions. She also went to the hot springs of Teveria. You ask me whether she should wait a bit or return immediately to Hadassah[1].

In my opinion, it would be good for her to consult the doctor again, since she is returning from the thermal baths of Teveria. If the doctor tells her that the obstacles are lifted, she will need to wait a few months, and Hashem will doubtless fulfill, in a good moment, the request of your heart by granting you a child.

The Alter Rebbe writes, in a letter[2], that it is good, in order to have a son or a daughter, to study Chassidus*, for it arouses ahavah and yirah of Hashem[3]. You tell me that you have a fixed shiur* of Torah every Thursday evening. That is not enough. First of all, it is obvious that one must study it on Shabbos. Furthermore, it is good to fix another study, two or three times during the week.

To the extent possible, one must not let three days pass without having studied Chassidus. Of course, this is in addition to the daily study of Tanya*, according to its yearly division.

You tell me, in your letter, that you suffer from constipation. It would be good to consult a doctor quickly about this. The works of Chassidus demonstrate the negative character of this condition, and it is therefore preferable to be rid of all this as quickly as possible. You will also consult the Hilchos De'os of the Rambam, chapter 4, paragraph 13[4].

שלום וברכה!

במענה על מכתבו בו מודיע איך שביקרה זוגתו תחי' אצל רופא ומלאה אחרי הוראותיו וגם נסעה לחמי טבריא, ושואל חוו"ד אם לחכות איזה זמן או לילך עוד הפעם ל"הדסה".

הנה לדעתי, לאחרי חזרתה מחמי טבריא כדאי שתהי' עוד אצל רופא ואם יאמר לה שהצנורות פתוחים אזי יש לחכות איזה חדשים, ובטח ימלא השי"ת משאלות לבבם לטובה להפקד בזחו"ק בקרוב,

וידוע מכתב אדמו"ר הזקן, אשר סגולה להולדת בנים ובנות היא ההתעסקות בתורת החסידות המביאה לאהבת השם וליראתו, ומה שכותב שיש לו קביעות שיעור כל ליל ששי, הנה אין זה מספיק, ונוסף על מילתא דפשיטא שצ"ל לימוד החסידות בש"ק הרי עכ"פ נכון הדבר שייקבע עוד שיעור ב' ג' פעמים בשבוע במשך השבוע ג"כ, ואם באפשר יהי' הסידור באופן שלא יעברו שלשה ימים בלא לימוד תורת החסידות, כמובן זהו נוסף על לימוד בתניא כמו שנחלק בהמורה שיעור - לימות השנה -.

מ"ש במכתבו, שיש לו עצירות וכו', הנה כדאי לשאול עד"ז דעת רופא בהקדם, וכידוע עד כמה שגינו (מל' גנות) בספרי החסידות ענין זה ושכדאי להשתדל בזה בהקדם האפשרי להפטר מזה, ועיין ג"כ ברמב"ם הלכות דיעות פרק ד' הי"ג.
