Greetings and blessings,

A) It is unfortunate that your letter says nothing of the influence you exert on others, in order to gladden their hearts. You know this story of the Tzaddik* and great rav*, our master Rabbi Levi Yitzchak of Berditchev, who was once seen dancing joyfully at dawn. He was asked the reason, and he replied that he had meditated on the morning brachos*, in particular on the one that praises Hashem "Who has not made me a non-Jew." He had thus become conscious of what he had been preserved from, of the pleasant character of his portion, his lot, and his heritage, since he was a Yid*. He could not conceive of a greater simchah*.

We ourselves will add to all this the fact that we have been revealed the teaching of the Baal Shem Tov, the importance of the precept "Serve Hashem with simchah," in addition to what the Hilchos De'os of the Rambam explain, affirming that one can serve Hashem "in all your ways" — that is, even by eating and drinking. We have therefore indeed taken a step forward to know true simchah.

B) You surely maintain the studies of Torah of which we spoke when you were here.

C) I am enclosing a copy of my letter, addressed to all, on the occasion of the "yom tov of all yomim tovim"*, the 19th of Kislev[1]. You no doubt know that the coming 10th of Shevat will be the second hilula* of my father-in-law, the Rebbe. It would be good, to the extent possible, to adopt on this occasion the practices that I defined in my letter of last year[2], of which I am also enclosing a copy.

I hope that you are still thinking of the improvement of your situation[3]. The verse says, indeed, that "it is not good for man to be alone." May Hashem give you success in this and in all the rest.

ב) חבל שלא מצאתי במכתבו פרטים ע"ד השפעתו ג"כ על אחרים לשמח את לבם, וכסיפור הידוע של הרה"צ הרה"ג כו' וכו' מוה"ר לוי יצחק מבארידטשוב זי"ע, שפעם מצאוהו באור בקר רוקד בשמחה גדולה, ועל השאלה לשמחה מה זו עושה, ענה שכאשר התעמק בברכת השחר בהברכה שלא עשני גוי, והסתכל ממה ניצול ומה טוב חלקו גורלו וירושתו שהוא יהודי, הנה אין לך שמחה גדולה מזו, ולדידן הנה נוסף ע"ז ג"כ מה שגילו לנו את תורת הבעש"ט דעבדו את ה' בשמחה אשר בתוספת על מה שמבואר בהלכות דיעות להרמב"ם שאפשר לעבוד את ה' "בכל דרכיך" היינו גם באכילה ושתי' וכו' הנה נתוסף שלב אחד שכ"ז אפשר להיות בשמחה אמיתית.

ג) בטח מחזיק בהשיעורים אשר עליהם נדברנו בהיותו כאן.

ד) מוסג"פ העתק מכ' הכללי בקשר עם חג החגים הוא יום י"ט כסלו, ובטח נודע לו אשר ביום יו"ד שבט הבע"ל הוא יום ההילולא השני' של כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע, ומהראוי אשר במדה האפשרית יתנהג כפי המבואר במכתבי דאשתקד אשר העתק מזה מוסגר פה.

אקוה אשר אינו מסיח דעתו מהטבת מצבו כמאמר הכתוב לא טוב היות האדם לבדו והשי"ת יצליחו בזה ובכל הנ"ל...
