To the rav*, distinguished chassid* who fears Hashem,
Rav Avraham Sender[1],

Greetings and blessings,

I have duly received your letter. I also thank you for your gift, the list of the talmidim* of the Yeshiva who studied in Lubavitch[2] until 5670[3]. I had been searching for it for a long time, and now you have sent it to me. I thank you very much for it.

In this connection, it would be good for you to indicate to me exactly during which period you yourself pursued your studies in this Yeshiva, and to give me the same precisions for your friends whom you remember.

You formulate a remark on the dimensions of quality and quantity, in considering the statement of Chazal* according to which Hashem consoled the moon[4] by multiplying its host[5]. It seems to me that this remark is judicious, although a distinction may be made[6]. A common point exists, however. So it is a good remark. You will also consult Tosafos on Maseches Sukkah 4b.

I am enclosing a copy of my letter addressed to all dating from Zos Chanukah[7], and I conclude by extending to you my brachah* for success in the time you devote to study, in which Chassidus* occupies an important place. And, since I am evoking this subject, I would like to ask you once again to do all that is necessary to strengthen ... in his own study of Chassidus.

בנועם קבלתי מכתבו... כן תודתי נתונה בזה בעד תשורתו רשימת התלמידים התמימים אשר למדו בליובאוויטש עד שנת עת"ר, כי זה מזמן רב שהנני מחפש את זה וכיוון לדעתי, ות"ח ת"ח.

ובענין זה הנה כדאי הי' הדבר, אם הי' רושם זמני למודו שלו בתו"ת בדיוק האפשרי, וכן זמני הלימוד מכיריו מאלו הידועים לו.

הערתו מ"ש בענין האיכות וכמות ממרז"ל שהקב"ה פייס דעת הירח ע"י שריבה צבאה, לדעתי ישרה היא אף שבכגון אלו יש לחלק בין ענין לענין, אבל בכ"ז צד השוה יש ביניהם (ועדמ"ש בתוד"ה כולהו סוכה ד:) והערה יפה היא.
