Greetings and blessings,

For the moment, I have not received the volumes of the Talmudic Encyclopedia[2] that you sent me. In the meantime, you have surely received the Piskei Dinim[3] and the volumes of the Sdei Chemed that were sent to you from here.

You speak of the necessary precautions and of the breadth of my work time. In general, this does not depend on me. What can I do? It is impossible for me to compress my time still further, and everyone complains that my replies are delayed, that the chassidic maamarim* and sichos* are not printed and not edited, that there is no money in the till, that no one comes to my aid. Of course, I am the one accused of all this.

May Hashem grant that all go for the best, that my forces and my time be devoted to what justifies them.

With my brachah* for good health and success in your work,

One point is to be noted. In my humble opinion, a word has been omitted in the text of the Rambam, at the beginning of chapter 4 of Hilchos De'os. It must read: "This is part of the ways of the service of Hashem"[4]. The same may be said for the end of chapter 3.

P.S.: I am sending you a copy of my letter of 19 Kislev, addressed to all. I have good hope that it will interest you.

Some time ago I asked the chief rabbi[5] whether arrangements had been made so that one might travel on the Jewish ships, which also sail on Shabbos. I have not yet received a reply. Perhaps you know whether the situation has been improved in this area, for I am sometimes asked about this.

... לע"ע לא נתקבלו כרכי האנציקלופדי' ששלח כת"ר שי' אלי, ובינתים בטח הגיעו לידו הפסקי דינים וכן כרכי השדי חמד ששלחום מכאן...

מה שכותב כת"ר שי' בענין הזהירות כו' וזמני עבודתי כאן, הנה ע"פ הרוב אין הדבר תלוי בידי, ומה אוכל אני לעשות, ולקמץ עוד מהזמן אי אפשר, כי בלא"ה כולם באים בטענה על עכוב המענה שלי אליהם, על מה שאין מדפיסים ומו"ל מאמרים ושיחות, למה אין כסף בקופה, מפני מה אין לי עוזרים כו' וכו' וכמובן הטענות הם אלי, ויה"ר מהשי"ת שיהי' הכל לטובה והכחות והזמן ינצלו על ענינים של ערך...

בברכה לבריאות הנכונה ולהצלחה בעבודתו.

ומענינא: ברמב"ם רפ"ד דעות לפענ"ד שבדפוסים נשמטה תיבה וצ"ל: מדרכי עבודת השם הוא. וכ"מ שם ספ"ג ג"כ.

נ"ב: מוסג"פ העתק מכ' כללי לי"ט כסלו, ותקותי שיעניין את כת"ר שי'.

זה מזמן ששאלתי את הרב הראשי שי' אם עשו איזה תיקון בכדי שיוכלו לנסוע בהספינות היהודיות, כיון שהם נוסעים גם בש"ק, ועדיין לא קבלתי מענה, ואולי ידוע לכת"ר שי' אם נעשה איזה תיקון בזה, כי לפעמים פונים אלי בשאלה אודות זה.
