Greetings and blessings,

In reply to your letter, in which you write that there is in your city a kindergarten whose teachers are not Jewish. The director, however, is a Torah-observant Jew, and he assures you that these teachers do not display their faith before the children. You therefore intend to send your daughter there.

First, it must be verified that these teachers refrain from displaying their faith when they have the children pray. One must also be careful regarding their food. Even so, it would be preferable to make other arrangements for your daughter, if there is a way that she should not be constantly in the company of non-Jews and under their responsibility, when they are the supervisors and teachers. For those who teach in kindergartens can, to a certain extent, leave their imprint on the children's minds even more clearly than in the schools.

If it turns out that all these concerns are unfounded, may Hashem grant that your course of action be successful, and that you derive Yiddishe* nachas* from her and from your other children.

I thought you would come here for the chassidishe* gathering of Yud-Tes Kislev*. The time has come, it seems to me, for you to bring here some people from your community. Yet it appears that you did not come, and I do not know whether you organized a chassidishe gathering in your city.

It is a pity to let these days pass — days during which it is possible to organize such gatherings — without taking advantage of them to draw Jewish hearts close to their Father in Heaven, to instill in them ahavas Hashem*, ahavas haTorah*, and ahavas Yisroel*. The strengths to accomplish this have indeed been granted to us by our holy Rebbeim*, and if we do not make use of them, they will be lost, chas veshalom*.

במענה על מכתבו, בו שואל אשר יש גן ילדים בעירו והמורים שבו הם אינם יהודים אבל המנהל הוא שומר תומ"צ, והוא - המנהל - מבטיח אשר אין לומדים המורים עם הילדים ע"ד אמונתם, וכו' ובמילא בדעתם לשלוח לשם את בתם הילדה... תחי':

הנה לכל לראש צריך לברר אם כנים הדברים אשר אין חשש ללימוד אמונה [ת] פילה בגן הילדים, וכן ג"כ בענין האכילה וכיו"ב, ואפילו לאח"ז הנה אם אפשר לסדר את בתם באופן אחר, היינו באופן שלא תהי' בחבורה תמיד ותחת השגחת אינם יהודים במקום שהם הבע"ב והמחנכים, כי במדה ידועה הרי בגן הילדים חודרים המורים יותר לתוך נפש הילד ממה שבבתי ספר, ואם אין מקום כלל לחשש הנ"ל הרי יה"ר שיהי' בהצלחה ויהי' לו, ממנה ומשאר ילידיהם שיחיו, אידישן נחת.

דמיתי אשר יהי' בפה בהתועדות י"ט כסלו, ולכאורה, כבר באה העת שיביא אתו עמו כמה מחברי קהלתו, וכנראה שלא בא וגם אינני יודע אם ערך התועדות י"ט כסלו במחנו, וחבל על כל יום התועדות העובר ואינו משתמש בו לקרב את לבן של ישראל לאביהם שבשמים ולתקנם באהבת השם אהבת התורה ואהבת ישראל, כי הרי הכחות ניתנו לנו ואם אין אנו משתמשים בהם הרי ח"ו אבוד הוא של כחות נשיאינו הק' רבוה"ק זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע.
