Igrot Kodesh · Letter 1306 — Bar Mitzvah
Volume 5 · Letter 84
By the grace of Hashem,
26 Kislev 5712,
Brooklyn,
Greetings and blessings,
You ask me about the Bar Mitzvah* of your son, which is to be celebrated this year during Parshas Beshalach[1].
In truth, I am surprised at such a question[2]. Why do you not seize this opportunity to travel to the tziyun* of my father-in-law, the Rebbe, since the Bar Mitzvah of your son is close to the day of his hilula*, the tenth of Shevat? Is it not perfectly clear that you should travel there and recall the luminous days you had the merit to live, when you were in the yeshiva* among the chassidim*? If you do not do so on this occasion, when will you do so?
If it is impossible — or if it appears to you to be impossible — you will celebrate the Bar Mitzvah where you are now, and may Hashem grant that it take place in an auspicious and propitious hour. You, your wife, and the members of your family will rejoice together with true simcha*, the simcha of a mitzvah*.
With my blessing,
Notes
(1) The question was presumably: should one take advantage of the Bar Mitzvah to travel to the tziyun of the Frierdiker Rebbe?
(2) Inasmuch as the answer should have been self-evident.
