To the great Rav, distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem

and devotes himself to the needs of the community,

Rav Yitzchak[1],

Greetings and blessings,

In these days, the Rav, distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem and multiplies positive actions to strengthen authentic Torah, Rav Yosef Halevi Weinberg[2], has gone to your country[3], delegated by the Merkaz of the Lubavitch Yeshivos.

You yourself, when you were here, were able to see and become aware of what is accomplished by the Merkaz of the Lubavitch Yeshivos in the area of the widest dissemination of Torah and the purest yiras Shamayim*.

Despite its great spiritual success, the Merkaz of the Lubavitch Yeshivos finds itself in a difficult and worrying material situation. The debts are considerable, and they call into question the perpetuity of the Yeshivos.

Basing myself on the statement of our Sages*, expressed in the Sifra* at the beginning of Parshas Tzav, that one urges zerizus* only upon those who possess this quality by nature, I address you to ask that you come to the aid, by every means, of Rav Y. Halevi Weinberg, so that the important mission entrusted to him be crowned with success.

I am certain that to one such as yourself it is unnecessary to underscore the importance of strengthening authentic Torah, suffused with yiras Shamayim*. This is so at all times, but how much more so in this period of ikvesa diMeshicha*, of which it is said that the wisdom of the scholars, although still present, will provoke disgust as if it were lifeless, for it pushes away those who fear sin[4].

Our Sages explain, in Maseches Shabbos* 31a, that the measure of grain will become wormy. Why so much disgust? Because truth will be lost — and the verse indeed says: "Hashem commanded us to perform all these statutes, in order to fear Hashem our Eternal"[5]. The study of Torah is one of these statutes.

I would like to know whether there has been a follow-up to what we spoke of when you were here, and whether you are well settled.

הרה"ח הוו"ח אי"א נו"מ בעל פעולות טובות להחזקת תורה תמימה וכו' מוה"ר יוסף שי' הלוי וויינבערג, יצא ימים אלו למדינתם בשליחות מרכז הישיבות תומכי תמימים ליובאוויטש.

מע"כ שי' בביקורו פה, נוכח לראות ולדעת את פעולות מרכז הישיבות תת"ל בשדה הרבצת תורה ויראת שמים טהורה בחוצות קרי'.

אבל למרות גודל ההצלחה ברוחניות, הנה המצב החומרי של מרכז הישיבות בעת הזאת קשה וחמור, החובות עלו למעלה ומזעזעים הם את קיומן של הישיבות.

ובזה הנני פונה אליו, עפ"י מרז"ל (ספרא ר"פ צו) אין מזרזין אלא למזורזין, בבקשה להשתדל בכל האפשרות לעזור להרה"ח וכו' מוהר"י שי' הלוי וויינבערג, למען אשר יצליח בשליחותו חשובה הנ"ל ומובטחני אשר לדכוותי' אין צורך בביאור גודל דבר החזקת תורה תמימה ביראת שמים בכל הזמנים, ובפרט בזמננו זה דעקבתא דמשיחא, אשר חכמת סופרים 0אף שישנה, אבל) נסרחה 0כדבר שאין בו חיות, מפני ש(יראי חטא נמאסו, (כמרז"ל שבת ל"א סע"א: קב חומטין כו' ומתליע, והסיבה למיאוס זה הוא, כי (האמת)דאמר קרא ויצוונו הוי' לעשות את כל החוקים האלה - ות"ת בכלל - ליראה את ה"א) נעדרת.

אתענין לדעת מההמשך למה שנדברנו בהיותו כאן, ומהסתדרותו בטוב.
