Greetings and blessings,

I duly received your letter — a few lines without a date. As you requested, I will mention your name at the tziyun* of my father-in-law, the Rebbe.

I note with surprise, in your letter, the expression "if anything unfortunate should happen." It is surely needless to tell you how important it is to place one's bitachon* in Hashem, especially according to what our faith and our Torah establish.

How much more so at the present hour, in a time when we are all, by the very fact of our existence, survivors — tangible proofs of great miracles. The mere thought that an unpleasant event might occur is therefore in itself already an unpleasant event.

In our time, there is much to be done, in every domain. One can see that the task is great and that time is lacking. It is therefore a pity to squander moral strength and zerizus* in this way, by entertaining such thoughts, when it is so important to build and to strengthen.

This applies more particularly to those who have received as an inheritance the strengths of several generations of extraordinary men. It is an inexcusable fault not to make use of such strengths in the manner just described.

If this is so for people of a certain age, how much more so for those who have just built a home. They have no right to wonder what will come about, when one must act. Certainly, one will not succeed in accomplishing all that needs to be done, but one cannot, for that, dispense with acting.

You doubtless take your appropriate share in the work of children's chinuch* in Eretz HaKodesh*, for it is there that the situation is most grave and most dangerous. It is there that one must act.

In greeting your husband, although I do not know him, and with my brachah* that you may put into practice the motto of the Baal Shem Tov*, "Serve Hashem with simcha*" — our faith affirming that every moment of life is consecrated to the service of Hashem,

קבלתי מכתבה שורות אחדות - בלי הוראת זמן כתיבתם - וכבקשתה אזכירה בהיותי על ציון כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע.

נפלאתי לקרות במכ' "שאם יגיעה חלילה וחלילה מקרה אי נעים כו'". למותר להאריך בענין מדת הבטחון עד כמה שמוכרחת היא בכלל, ובפרט על פי דתנו ותורתנו, ועל אחת כמה וכמה עתה, אשר כולנו שארית הפליטה הננו מופתים חיים לנסים גלוים, בעצם מציאותינו, אלא שמחשבה זו גופא, מה יהי' אם חלילה יקרה מקרה מר, הרי זה גופא מקרה מר הוא.

ובימינו אלה, שיש כר נרחב לעבודה גדולה בכל מקצוע ומקצוע ורואים עתה במוחש איך שהמלאכה מרובה והזמן קצר, הנה חבל על הכחות נפשיים והמרץ שמשתמשים בהם והולכים לאיבוד בקשר עם מחשבות הנ"ל, בה בשעה שנצרכים הם כ"כ לעבודת יסוד ובנין. ובפרט כל אלו אשר בהם נשקעו בירושה כחות של כמה וכמה דורות אנשי מעלה הרי עון פלילי הוא כל רגע שאין משתמשים בכחות אלו למטרה הנ"ל. ואם באישים באים בימים כך, הרי עאכו"כ בנוגע לאותם אישים שזה עתה יסדו בית בישראל - שאין להם כל רשות לחשוב חשבונות מה יהי' וכו', בה בשעה שבעה"ב דוחק, ואף כי אין עליך המלאכה לגמור אבל אין אתה בן חורין להפטר ממנה.

בטח לוקחת חלק באופן המתאים בעבודת החנוך הכשר באה"ק ת"ו שבזה הוא המצב החמור ומסוכן ביותר וחיוני ביותר.

בפ"ש בעלה שי' אף כי בלתי מכירו ובברכה לקיים בפועל סיסמת הבעש"ט עבדו את ה' בשמחה ועפ"י דרשות דתינו שכל רגע מהחיים היא עבודה להשי"ת.
