Since the 18th of Elul* became known as the date of birth of the Baal Shem Tov and the Alter Rebbe*, the custom has been adopted, in various places and especially in Chabad* synagogues, to organize, on this day, fraternal gatherings, during which stories of the Tzaddikim* are told and one strengthens oneself in the Chassidic ways, in general and in love of one's fellow, in particular. One also makes good resolutions, concerning the study of Torah, its revealed part and its hidden aspect.
In the family of the Rebbe, this date is celebrated with particular splendor. The Rebbe himself pronounces words of encouragement, inviting to the study of Torah and to the service of Hashem. Sometimes, he even delivers a Chassidic discourse.
