To the great Rav, distinguished Chassid* of manifold

learning, who devotes himself faithfully to the needs

of the community and multiplies positive accomplishments,

Rav Yehudah Zev Halevi[1],

Greetings and blessings,

I received your letter of Monday of Parshas Lech Lecha with satisfaction and joy. It informed me of the new organization that you have just adopted in your Yeshivah, whose talmidim* are now more numerous. May Hashem grant that they multiply still further and become ever more upright. Their hearts will be drawn closer to their Father in Heaven, and they will intensify their radiance — that of "the candle is a mitzvah and the Torah is light"[2], as well as that of the luminary of Torah, which is Chassidus*.

You know the parable[3] of my father-in-law, the Rebbe, that "when a streetlamp is set up in the street, all gather around it." From this two points emerge:

A) One cannot content oneself with the light one possesses inside the home. One must, in addition, set up a streetlamp in the street.

B) The side of good is stronger[4]. Thus, not only do the people upon whom one strives to exert an influence gather around the streetlamp, but, more than that, the simple fact that it stands in the street, even in the middle of the night and in the darkness, draws all those who find themselves in that street.

In practice, one can verify that the more intense the gloom, the more powerful the attraction exerted by the light of the streetlamp.

I thank you very much for the remarks you make concerning the talmidim* of the Yeshivah... As you proposed, I have written to them, and I enclose a copy of my letter. I hope that positive consequences will follow, and I would be grateful if you would gladden me in this matter.

I am enclosing the kuntres* published for Yud-Tes Kislev*[5] and the brochure[6]. You will surely make them available to as wide an audience as possible, in a fitting manner. I am also sending you a letter addressed to all[7], which accompanies the kuntres*.

I extend to you my brachah* for considerable success in your sacred mission, which will also be a wide channel for drawing down the blessings of Hashem and ample vessels to contain them, so that all your needs be satisfied, including in your personal concerns.

Concerning the supervisors of studies whom you need for your Yeshivah, please address yourself directly to our office in Paris, specifying the conditions to be observed on both sides.

It is very good that you accept the boys... in your Yeshivah, but on the condition that they receive a good influence there and not...[8].

בנועם ובשמחה קבלתי מכתבו מב' פ' לך, בו מודיע ע"ד הסדרים לזמן החדש בישיבתו הק' ואשר נתוסף גבולם בתלמידים. כן יזכהו השי"ת להרבות גבולו בתלמידים הגונים יותר ויותר, ולקרב את לבם לאביהם שבשמים ע"י תוספת אור בנר מצוה ותורה אור ומאור שבתורה זוהי תורת החסידות.

וכבר ידוע פתגם כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע שכשמעמידים פנס ברחוב, מתקבצים סביבו, ולמדנו מזה בשני דברים, א) שא"א להסתפק באור הנמצא בבית פנימה, אלא צריך להעמיד פנס ג"כ ברחוב. ב) מרובה מדה טובה אשר לא לבד שהאנשים שמשתדלים עמהם מתקבצים סביבו של הפנס, אלא מציאות הפנס, אף שנמצא ברחוב באישון לילה ואפילה, מושך אליו את האנשים הנמצאים ברחוב, ובמוחש רואים הננו אשר כל שתגדל האפלה, גדול ג"כ כח המושך של אור הפנס.

ת"ח ת"ח על הערתו בענין התלמידים... שיחיו, וכפי הצעת כת"ר שי' הנני כותב אליהם. (ומוסג"פ העתקת מכתבי) ואקוה לתוצאות טובות, ות"ח אם ישמחני גם בזה.

מוסג"פ הקונטרס לי"ט כסלו הבע"ל והחוברת, ובטח יזכה בהם את הרבים באופן המתאים, וכן מכ' הכללי השייך להקונטרס.

בברכת הצלחה רבה בעבודתו בקדש, שזה יהי' ג"כ צנור רחב להמשכה וכלים רחבים לקבלת ברכות השי"ת בכל המצטרך לכת"ר שי' גם בעניניו הפרטים.
