Greetings and blessings,

I received in its time your letter from the end of the month of Tishrei. From it I learned with pleasure that you participate in the public Torah shiurim* given in your shul*, dealing with Mishnah* and Tanya*.

You have doubtless heard the saying[1] of the Rebbe Maharash*, which my father-in-law, the Rebbe, repeated many times: "If the situation is good, does that mean one should not seek to improve it?"

I therefore wish to propose that you also take a Gemara* shiur*. You doubtless know the maamar* Chassidi[2] of the Rebbe Maharash*, which explains that everyone must study, every day, the Written Torah with Rashi's commentary — which consists of "selections from the Midrashim of our Sages" — and also the word of Hashem, that is, the Oral Torah, as Hilchos Talmud Torah and Iggeres HaKodesh*[3] explain.

Everyone should therefore study at least one Talmudic tractate per year[4]. You doubtless have in your city the brochure[5] published for 24 Teves 5711. You will consult its conclusion.

Likewise, it would be good to learn each week several commentaries on the "Sidra Chassidis" — that is, in the winter, from Torah Or*, and in the summer, from Likkutei Torah*, in accordance with the Parshah*.

Various texts of our Sages establish that the Torah is the vessel for drawing down and receiving all blessings, both material and spiritual.

בעתו קבלתי מכתבו משלהי תשרי, ונהניתי לקרות בו אשר משתתף הוא בשיעורי תורה ברבים בבית הכנסת שלהם, והם לימוד משניות ופרק תניא,

בטח שמע מפתגם כ"ק אדמו"ר מוהר"ש נ"ע, אשר כמה פעמים חזר עליו כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע, והוא "צי אז גוט איז גוט, איז בעסער ניט בעסער" ולכן באתי בהצעתי אשר יקח עליו שיעור בלימוד הגמרא, ובודאי ידוע לו מאמרו של כ"ק אדמו"ר מוהר"ש נ"ע, שכל אחד ואחד צריך ללמוד בכל יום תורה שבכתב עם פרש"י, שהוא תרומות מדרשי רז"ל ונאום ה' תורה שבע"פ כמ"ש בהלכות תלמוד תורה ובאגרת הקדש שלכל הפחות צריך כל אחד ללמוד מס' גמרא בשנה, ובטח ישנה במחנו החוברת שנדפסה לכ"ד טבת ה'תשי"א, יעיין שם בסוף החוברת.

וכן מהנכון אשר בכל שבוע ושבוע ילמוד איזה דרושים פון דער חסידישער סדרה, היינו בימות החורף בתורה אור ובימות הקיץ בלקוטי תורה מדרושי פרשת השבוע. וידוע בכ"מ מרז"ל אשר התורה היא כלי להמשכת וקבלת כל הברכות בגשמיות וברוחניות.
