To the Rav, distinguished Chassid who fears Hashem, Rav N. N.[1],

Greetings and blessings,

I address to you, by the present, the kuntres* edited on the occasion of 20 Cheshvan, which has just appeared. You shall surely make it available to the greatest number of people, in the appropriate manner.

If time permits me, I shall write to you again, on this subject, but I would like, from now, to emphasize to you the importance of preparing the days of farbrengens* that mark the month of Kislev, that is to say, 10 Kislev, 19 Kislev, the festival of Chanukah, and the intermediate Shabbosos[2].

It would be good to devote this period to spreading the wellsprings[3] outward, which is then opportune. Farbrengens shall therefore take place in the settlements of the Chassidim and at the yeshivah. A farbrengen shall, moreover, gather all the Chassidim. In addition, such gatherings shall also be held in all the synagogues where this shall be possible, and a representative of the Chassidim or a talmid* of the yeshivah shall participate in them, who shall instill enthusiasm, the "life of life," as a letter[4] explains, printed in the kuntres that shall be edited for 19 Kislev[5]. This letter had been addressed, in its time, to Rav A. A. Plotkin[6].

It would also be good for the event to be the object of a diffusion in the newspapers, or by any other means, so that all those who find themselves completely "outside" know that one has just "placed a streetlamp" there[7].

My father-in-law, the Rebbe, says, indeed, that, when one places a streetlamp in the street, all gather around it. There results from this therefore a double teaching:

A) One cannot content oneself with the light that one has at home, for a streetlamp is found only in the street.

B) In addition to the efforts that one must direct toward certain persons, others draw close naturally, when they see the light.

אם ירשה לי הזמן אבוא עוד בכתובים עד"ז, והנני להעירו גם עתה ע"ד נחיצות ההכנות לימי ההתועדות דחדש כסלו הבע"ל והם ימי יו"ד וי"ט כסלו וחנוכה והשבתים שבינתים.

ומהנכון הי' לקיים בזה הזמן הענין דיפוצו מעיינותיך חוצה שזהו מענינא דיומא, היינו שנוסף על ההתועדות שתהי' בבתי קבוצי אנ"ש ובפרט בהישיבה, ונוסף על ההתועדות שיהי' מכל אנ"ש ביחד, הנה כדאי להשתדל לעשות התועדות בבתי כנסיות השייכים לזה, וכמובן שבכל התועדות דשם יהי' ג"כ ב"כ מאנ"ש והתמימים שיוכלו להפיח רוח חיים, חיי החיים, וחיים דחיי החיים (כמבואר במכ' - הנדפס בסוף הקונטרס די"ט כסלו הבע"ל, - הנשלח בשעתו להרה"ג והרה"ח מוהרא"א ז"ל פלאטקין) ונכון להשתדל ג"כ שיפורסם הדבר במכ"ע וגם באופנים אחרים המתאימים כדי שאפילו אלו הנמצאים בחוץ לגמרי ידעו על דבר "העמדת הפנס" וחל ע"ז פתגם כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר, שכשמעמידים פנס ברחוב מתקבצים סביבו, והלימוד בזה בשתים : א) אשר אין להסתפק בהאור שבבית, כי ענין הפנס הוא להעמידו ברחוב 9ב אשר לבד אלו שצריכים להשתדל בהתקרבותם, הרי ישנם גם כמה וכמה אנשים שעצם מציאות אור ממשיך אותם, ות"ח מראש על הודעתו בשו"ט בכל הנ"ל.
