To the leaders of Kfar Chabad, to whom Hashem shall grant long life[1],
Greetings and blessings,
I was made aware of your request, in its time, by the distinguished Chassid who fears Hashem, Rav P. Althuiz[2]. You wish that one contact Dr. Schwartz, director of the United Appeal, regarding the note on the shemittah* aid fund[3] that you transmitted to him, when he was in the Holy Land.
Your request was satisfied, and I took note of his reply with a particular astonishment. He claims to have already replied to you in the negative, to have told you that he did not have funding for this object, and to have given you still other arguments. Moreover, he explains, it is difficult to obtain from American donors a participation, in this matter. Indeed, it has been announced that the Chief Rabbinate had found a means to permit the work[4].
I have also learned that the Jewish Agency has reserved a credit of 125,000 for the shemittah, and this concerns you, concretely. You must therefore address yourselves directly to its headquarters in the Holy Land to formulate a request. Evidently, the sooner the better.
You will find enclosed the kuntres* edited on the occasion of 20 Marcheshvan.

בשעתו קבלתי בקשתם על ידי הוו"ח אי"א נו"מ וכו' מו"ה הר"פ שי' אלטהויז, שידברו עם הד"ר שווארץ, מנהל המגבית היהודית המאוחדת, בקשר עם התזכיר ע"ד קרן השמיטה שמסרו לו בהיותו באה"ק ת"ו.
בקשתם נתמלאה, ומה מאד גדלה תמיהתי כשהודיעו לי המענה שלו, אשר מכבר ענה לכם בשלילה ע"ד בקשתם - (בטענה אשר אין אצלו קופה לתכלית זו, ועוד נימוקים. ובפרט - זהו מדבריו - שהמנדבים פה באמריקה קשה להסבירם לתרום לצורך זה, כיון שנתפרסם שהרבנות הראשית מצאה אופן היתר עבודה וכו').
עוד נודעתי, וזהו נוגע לפועל, אשר הסוכנות היהודית קבעה סכום של 125,000 בתור קרן השמיטה, ובזה יש לפנות ישר להסוכנות באה"ק ת"ו בתביעה, ומובן אשר ההקדם בזה ישובח.
