Greetings and blessings,

I reply to the following question, which you posed to me: "Has a woman the right to make use of contraceptive means if the doctors determine that a pregnancy would be dangerous for her?"[1]

The Sages of the earlier and later generations have already discussed this point. Our masters permit this use. You will consult the responsa of the Tzemach Tzedek*, Even HaEzer section, end of chapter 9. There also exists a manuscript reply, on this question, from the son of the Tzemach Tzedek, the Maharin[2]. I have also heard that my father-in-law, the Rebbe, indeed permitted this use to someone. Such is not the opinion of a portion of the rabbanim of Hungary.

I await good news of your state of health, of that of your wife, and of all your children.
