To the Youth Committee of Agudas Chassidei Chabad*,

upon whom Hashem should bestow long life,

Greetings and blessings,

I read with pleasure and joy the report[1] of your meeting. I learned that you have established a plan of action. Although "pleasure fills one side of my heart," I see, however, that there are many absent from the list of participants, and "pain fills the other side of my heart." Nevertheless, I have good hope that, when the time comes, they too will lend their support. And, "the Holy One, blessed is He, found no better vessel for blessing than shalom*." Obviously, their participation must not call into question the great principles.

I wish, by means of this letter, to bring up with you the luminous and clear date of Chai Elul*, which approaches. You will surely take advantage of this occasion, with the eagerness and vitality that characterize youth, to disseminate the ideal of the Baal Shem Tov* and the Alter Rebbe*, who were both born, spiritually and physically, on this date. You will spread it in the widest circles, even those who are, for the moment, very far from our environment.

You know the saying of my father-in-law, the Rebbe[2], specifying the difference between those who belong to other communities and the Chabad Chassidim. Among the former, the scholars stay at home and those who thirst for Torah must take the step of going to them. The Baal Shem Tov, by contrast, changed the established order in this matter, and he himself went to every place, without waiting for people to come to see him and declare themselves thirsty for the word of Hashem. He himself moved from one place to another, from city to city, from village to village, disseminating the "words of the living Creator"[3]. You will consult, in this regard, in Sefer HaSichos* Summer 5700[4], the words spoken on Acharon shel Pesach* during the midday meal.

Furthermore, a program will be established to take advantage, in the best way, of the month of Tishrei*, which approaches, by visiting, as I have said, various places in the Holy Land, during the Yamim Nora'im*[5] or during Z'man Simchaseinu*[6]. It is fitting, above all, that this activity be orderly, that it cover the broadest sectors, the largest number of people, men, women, and children.

Finally, a particular effort will be made, regarding all that has just been said, with respect to our brethren of Yemen and Persia[7] who, for the moment, have no knowledge of Chassidus*, of its teaching and its practices, and yet are particularly fit to receive it, because they have yiras Shamayim*, are connected to Kabbalah*, have faith in tzaddikim*. They will therefore accept the truth of Chassidus, as our masters have transmitted it to us, if it is brought to them.

I would like to know the details of the program that has been proposed to you. It would be good, concerning all this, that you act in consultation with the leadership of Agudas Chassidei Chabad*[8]. The mission previously defined is, in large part, entrusted to the youth, since it requires travel that one must undertake with enthusiasm and eagerness. Nevertheless, our Sages remarked that "the demolition of the elderly is a building." How much more so is it for their building.

I do not currently possess the funds necessary to finance the activities that have just been defined. Nevertheless, I wish to contribute, from here, my participation in this important work. For various reasons, it is impossible for me to send you money. I am therefore sending you certificates for sending packages[9]. Our Sages establish that what has market value is considered as money.

I have sent you, in a separate envelope, an excerpt[10] of the sicha* of Shabbos Mevarchim[11] Elul and a brochure on the communal activity of Chabad, which has just appeared. All this has been sent by airmail and you will kindly confirm to me having received it.

With my brachah that all your members be inscribed and sealed for a good year, with all the members of their families, all their relatives, who will all have a good and sweet year,

שלום וברכה!

בנועם ובשמחה קראתי הפרטי-כל של אסיפתם, אשר כבר עורכים תכנית לעבודה ממשית, ואף שחדוה תקיעה בלבאי בסטרא דא, הנה בכי' תקיעה בלבאי מסיטרא דא, אשר כמה וכמה חסרים ברשימת המשתתפים. אבל תקותי אשר במשך הזמן גם אלו יצטרפו אליהם. ולא מצא הקב"ה כלי מחזיק ברכה לישראל אלא השלום. כמובן שיצטרפו אליהם מבלי שיוותרו הם על ענינים עקריים.

ועל של עתה באתי לעוררם על היום הצח והבהיר הוא יום ח"י אלול הבע"ל, אשר בטח ינצלו אותו במרץ וחיות שם מסגולות הצעירים, להפיץ את רעיון הבעל שם טוב ואדמו"ר הזקן, אשר יום הולדתם, ברוחניות ובגשמיות, הוא יום ח"י זה. ולהפיץ רעיון זה בחוגים היותר רחבים ואף שהם לעת עתה עדיין רחוקים מסביבתנו שלנו. וידוע פתגם כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע בהחילוק שבין העולמ'שע וחב"ד, אשר סדר הגדולים של העולמ'שע הי' שהיו יושבים בביתם ובמקומם, וכל התאב לתורה הי' בא אליהם ליהנות מזיו תורתם. משא"כ מהבעש"ט ואילך, שהם הנהיגו את הסדר שהי' הבעש"ט מסבב בעיירות ואינו מחכה עד שיבואו אליו ויאמרו צמאים אנו לדבר הוי' אלא הוא בכבודו ובעצמו הי' מכתת רגליו ממקום למקום מעיר לעיר ומכפר לכפר והי' מפיץ את תורת דברי אלקים חיים (ספר השיחות, קיץ ת"ש, אחרון של פסח, בסעודת היום).

ב) לסדר תכנית עבודה איך לנצל את חודש תשרי הבע"ל, וכנ"ל על ידי הסיבוב במקומות שונים, באה"ק ת"ו, או במשך הימים נוראים, או בימים דזמן שמחתנו, והעיקר שיהי' באופן מסודר, ובאופן שיקיפו שטחים היותר גדולים ומספר אנשים ונשים וטף היותר גדול.

ג) תשומת לב מיוחדה בכל הנ"ל דורשים אחינו בני תימן, פרס וכו' אשר מצד אחד אין להם לע"ע שום ידיעה מתנועת החסידות תורתה ודרכי', ומצד שני מוכשרים הם ביותר, מצד היראת שמים שבהם והתקשרותם בתורת הקבלה ואמונת צדיקים, לקבל כל דבר אמת שיורו אותם בתורת דא"ח שנחלו לנו כ"ק נשיאינו רבותינו הקדושים זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע.

אתענין לדעת מהפרטים של התכנית אשר הציגו להם בזה, ומהנכון ביותר שיתייעצו בכהנ"ל עם מנהלי אגודת חסידי חב"ד, אשר אף כי על שכם הצעירים מוטל חלק גדול של עבודה הנ"ל הקשורה בטלטול הדרך הדורש מרץ וחיות ביותר, אבל, מאידך גיסא, כיון שאמרו רז"ל סתירת זקנים בנין, על אחת כו"כ שבנין זקנים הוא בנין.

לע"ע אין תחת ידי אמצעים מספיקים לכלכל את ההוצאות הקשורות בעבודה הנ"ל, אבל בהיות רצוני חזק להשתתף גם מכאן בהוצאות בענין נעלה כזה, ומבלי האפשריות מפני כמה טעמים לשלוח כסף מפה, הנני מסגיר פה סרטיפיקט לחבילות וארז"ל שוה כסף ככסף.

במעטפה בפ"ע נשלח להם קטע משיחת שבת מברכים חדש אלול, וכן חוברת ע"ד עסקנות ציבורית חב"ד שיצא לאור זה עתה, כל זה בדואר אויר, ומטובם לאשר קבלת הנ"ל.

בברכת כתיבה וחתימה טובה לכל החברים שי' הם וב"ב וכל אשר להם, כלם יעמדו על הברכה לשנה טובה ומתוקה.
