To the chassid* who fears Hashem and devotes himself

to communal needs,

Greetings and blessings,

I duly received your letter, in which you inform me that you have settled in Antwerp and that you have found there the means of earning your livelihood. May Hashem grant that you experience hatzlachah* and earn your living with ease, so that you may dedicate substantial time to the study of Torah and have all that is good, materially and spiritually alike.

I was pleased to learn from your letter that you organized a farbrengen* for the festival of liberation[1] of the 12th of Tammuz. You gathered friends and encouraged them to ahavas Yisroel* and to fixing a time for limud HaTorah*. I would like to know whether the good resolutions taken on that occasion have been followed by deeds. You know that from the 15th of Av onward[2], "one adds[3] to the one who adds[4]" of long days and good years.

You will likewise organize a farbrengen on the occasion of Chai Elul[5], in addition to the one which took place on Shabbos Mevarchim*[6]. You will report to me good news, telling me that your kehillah* is widening, that it is integrating new members coming from circles which until now have had only slight acquaintance with Chassidus*.

As to the actual study of Chassidus, it is necessary to know more about their age and their familiarity with nigleh*. However, this study is generally introduced by Tanya*, by Derech Mitzvosecha of the Tzemach Tzedek*, by Kuntres U'Mayan of the Rebbe Rashab, and by some maamarim* of my father-in-law, the Rebbe, easy to grasp, which one may find, for example, in the kuntreisim* published on the occasion of 12 Tammuz.

Enclosed is an excerpt from the farbrengen of Shabbos Mevarchim Elul[7]. You will surely disseminate it in the appropriate manner.

בעתו קבלתי מכתבו בו מודיע אשר קבע דירתו באנטווערפן והסתדר בעניני פרנסה. ויה"ר שיהי' בהצלחה וימצא פרנסתו בנקל באופן שיוכל להתעסק לקבוע עתים לתורה בהרחבה... לטוב לפניו בגשמיות וברוחניות גם יחד.

נהניתי ממה שכותב במכתבו שעשו התועדות בהחג י"ב תמוז בהתועדות ריעים ובהתעוררות והתחזקות באהבת ישראל וקביעות עתים לתורה. ואשמח להודע אשר החלטתם הטובה קיימו גם בפועל. וידוע אשר מט"ו מנ"א ואילך הרי כל המוסיף מוסיפים לו - לאורך ימים ושנים טובות.

בטח גם בח"י אלול הבע"ל יעשו התועדות נוסף על ההתועדות שעשו בש"ק מברכים, ויודיע בשו"ט מהגדלת חבורתם ובהוספת חברים גם מחוגים כאלו שעד עתה יודעים מעט ע"ד תורת הדא"ח.

בנוגע ללימוד הדא"ח, הנה צריך לדעת יותר ברור ע"ד הגיל שלהם וידיעותיהם בתורת הנגלה. אבל בכלל בתור התחלה של הלימוד דא"ח צ"ל הלימוד בספר התניא, דרך מצותיך להצמח צדק, קונטרס ומעין לכ"ק אדמו"ר (מוהרש"ב) נ"ע, ומאמרים הקלים של כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע, שעפ"י הרוב הם בהקונטרסים של י"ב תמוז, ועוד.
