By the grace of Hashem,

3 Elul 5711,

To the great Rav, distinguished chassid* who fears Hashem

and devotes himself to communal needs,

Rav Yechezkel Shraga[1],

Greetings and blessings,

I duly received your letter of the 7th of Menachem Av, in which you stress the importance of studying the laws of the seventh year[2] and of disseminating them throughout Eretz Yisroel*.

May Hashem bless your initiative to strengthen Torah. You doubtless have the means to recall the importance of this study to all of Eretz Yisroel. Obviously, the Lubavitcher chassidim* will do all that is in their power in this domain.

I take this occasion to ask you to give me a clarification. Some say that an article or notice bearing your signature has appeared in the press in Eretz Yisroel, permitting work[3] during shemittah*. I do not know how well-founded this report, which has reached us here, may be. I would be grateful if you would write me what is the case.

You are surely in contact with other persons and institutions devoted to the study of the laws of shemittah, and you collaborate with them.

With my berachah that you be inscribed and sealed for a good and sweet year,

קבלתי מכתבו מז' מנ"א, בו מעורר ע"ד הנחיצות ללמוד דיני שביעית ולהפיץ לימוד זה בכל מרחבי אה"ק ת"ו.

יישר חיילי' לאורייתא, כי בטח עושה את אשר ביכולתו לעורר גם באופן ישר את הנחיצות באה"ק ת"ו בלימוד זה, ומובן אשר החסידים ואנ"ש שי' יהיו עושים את אשר ביכולתם במקצוע זה.

ובהזדמנות זו הנני לבקש לברר לי, באשר י"א שנדפס משמו מאמר או הודעה בעתונים באה"ק ת"ו בענין ההיתר עבודה בשמיטה וכו' ובאשר איני יודע כמה מן האמת בהידיעה בזה שנתקבלה לכאן, ת"ח לכת"ר באם יכתוב לי פרטי הדברים.

בטח בא בקשור דברים עם האנשים ומוסדות אחרים המתעסקים בענין למוד הלכות שמיטה ועובד עמהם יחד.
