By the grace of Hashem,

3 Elul 5711,

To the Rav, distinguished chassid* who fears Hashem,

Rav Yeshayah HaKohen[1],

Greetings and blessings,

I duly received, in due time, your request for a berachah on the occasion of the festival of liberation[2]. I read it at the Ohel* of my father-in-law, the Rebbe, so that he may invoke divine mercy for you and for all the members of your family, so that each may obtain the satisfaction of his needs.

In these auspicious days, filled with mercy, of the month of Elul, I await your good news. I wish to learn that the requests formulated in your letter and in your request for a berachah are beginning to be realized, in a positive manner.

You doubtless know that one of the pesukim* whose initials form the name of Elul is the following[3]: "Ish l'rei'eihu u'matanos l'evyonim" — "a man to his fellow, and gifts to the poor." Before the Holy One blessed be He, each one of us is a poor person, and Chazal* specify[4] that "He tells His words to Yaakov" — that is, He Himself fulfills what He asks Yidden* to do. He will therefore grant gifts to all of us, among the entirety of Klal Yisroel*.

With my berachah that you be inscribed and sealed for a good and sweet year,

בעתו קבלתי הפ"נ שלו לחג הגאולה, וקראתיו על הציון של כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע לעורר ר"ר עליו ועל כב"ב שי' לכאו"א מהם להמצטרך לו, ובימי הרצון והרחמים האלו דחדש אלול אחכה לבשו"ט ממנו להתחלת מילוי משאלות לבבו לטובה לענינים אלו שכתב במכתבו ובהפ"נ שלו.

ידוע אשר אחד מהר"ת דחדש אלול הוא, איש לרעהו ומתנות לאביונים, וכאו"א מאתנו הוא בבחי' אביון לגבי הקב"ה, וידוע מרז"ל מגיד דבריו ליעקב, שמה שהוא מצוה לישראל לעשות, עושה הקב"ה בעצמו, ובודאי יתן מתנות לאביונים לכולנו בתכ"י.
