Greetings and blessings,

I am surprised and concerned not to have received any news from you for quite some time. I know nothing of the state of health of your wife, nor of the manner in which you have settled in, nor of what is becoming of your son and the members of your family.

I assume that all is for the best, in keeping with the practice of the chassidim* of the early generations who would not write when all was well. Nevertheless, it would surely be good to abolish this practice and to give news also when all is well. May Hashem grant that we announce only good news, always and every day.

Enclosed is a kuntres* of commentaries on Eichah*[1] and an excerpt from the sichah*[2] delivered at the farbrengen* of Shabbos Mevarchim*[3] Elul. You will please disseminate the latter, in the appropriate manner, in the widest circles.

I conclude by extending to you my berachah for a good settlement, both material and spiritual, for good health and for all that is good, with greetings to those who daven in your shul*, and wishing you to be inscribed and sealed for a good year,
