and devotes himself to communal needs,

Greetings and blessings,

I have duly received your letter dated the eve of Shabbos, 23 Tammuz. In the meantime, my letters addressed to Messrs. Elmaleh, Gross, and Da Silva have surely reached their addressees. I had written them in connection with the festival of the liberation[2], and they perhaps make a complementary explanation necessary[3]. I leave it to your judgment in this matter.

You write to me that you are unable to speak about the 12th of Tammuz with anyone in your city[4]. This is not exact. There must necessarily be persons there to whom you can address yourself. If that were not the case, you would not have settled in this city. But you must still find these persons.

The attribute of good is more powerful than that of misfortune. Now, at the beginning of tractate Pesachim, our Sages have shown in what manner one had to search for chametz*[5], even into the holes and the cracks. How much more so must this be the case when it concerns a positive search and the effort that each Jew must furnish in this matter. In such a case, one can undoubtedly obtain much more than the expected result, and in any case, far beyond what one can imagine even before having furnished such an effort.

Very often we need to know here, in a precise way, the number of institutions[6] and of pupils who attend each one of them. Thanks to your action, this number increases from time to time. You will therefore kindly notify me immediately of the creation of a new institution or of a new arrangement in this matter. I thank you in advance for it.

The Joint financing[7] causes me much worry, but I have good hope that my father-in-law, the Rebbe, who continues to direct the action, more than during his lifetime, will obtain success in this domain. As the kuntres* of the 12th of Tammuz, edited for the festival of the liberation, explains this year, the success will be both natural and supernatural at the same time.

On the eve of Rosh Chodesh Menachem Av, I went to the tziyun* of my father-in-law, the Rebbe, and I mentioned your name, as well as that of your wife, for the satisfaction of your needs and that you may soon have children.

I am a little surprised that you do not mention, in your letter, the state of health of your wife. In accordance with the custom of the chassidim of the older generation, this presumably means that all is well. In your next letter, you will surely detail this point, and you can be certain, just like your wife, that my father-in-law, the Rebbe, calls forth blessing and success for those who devote themselves to the mission he has entrusted to them. You will both convey good news to me in this domain.

I enclose for you the report of what I said to the talmidim* who are going to various cities with the mission of strengthening Jewish practice there[8]. Perhaps you will be able to make use of it, in the appropriate manner, in your city.

It would be good to seek out, in your city, a newspaper in which one could publish articles on our action in particular, or on Torah and chassidus* more generally. Obviously, it does not matter if it is written in the language of the country. On the contrary, this can be an advantage and enable one to multiply the number of readers.

I have just received your letter of Rosh Chodesh Menachem Av. I thank you for sending me the kabbalah* books. I urgently ask you to continue to do so, whether it concerns kabbalah or the revealed part of Torah (nigleh*). The more you send, the better it will be. They need not necessarily be ancient works[9]. They may be anything that is published in Africa or in Asia.

בעתו קבלתי מכתבו מעש"ק כ"ג תמוז, ובטח בינתים הגיעו ג"כ המכתבים בשביל מר אלמליח, גראס, ודאווילא, אך כתבתים בקשר עם ימי חג הגאולה ואולי זקוקים הם לביאור נוסף, הנה על בינת כת"ר אשען בזה.

מה שכותב שבענין י"ב תמוז אין עם מי לשוחח במחנו, הנה לא נכון הדבר, כי בודאי ישנם וישנם, כי לולא זאת לא הי' בא הוא לשם, אלא שעדיין צריך חפוש, ומרובה מדה טובה ממדת פורעניות, ומה בחפוש חמץ הפליגו רז"ל בתחלת מס' פסחים באופני החפוש שצ"ל בזה גם בחורין וסדקים, הנה עאכו"כ בחיפוש הטוב שכאו"א מישראל צריך להשתדל עד"ז ואז בלי ספק שמוצאים הרבה יותר מזה שגם משערים בתחלה, ופשיטא שהרבה יותר ממה שנראה לעיני בשר קודם ההתחלה בזה.

לעתים קרובות דרוש פה לדעת בדיוק מספר המוסדות ובערך גם מספר התלמידים והתלמידות, שבכל אחד ואחד מהם. וכיון שלפי מצב העבודה שלו מתוסף וגדול מספר המוסד' מזמן לזמן, הנה מטובו להודיע תיכף בכל פעם ופעם שמתוסף מוסד, וגם בתוספת איזה פרטים שיהי' בידו אודות המוסד, ות"ח מראש.

בנוגע לעניני הכספים מהדזוינט, הנה הרבה עגמ"נ יש בדבר, אבל תקותי חזקה, שגם עתה הנה כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר שהוא הוא המנהל הענינים, ויתיר מבחיוהי, יפעול שיהי' בהצלחה, וכמבואר בקונטרס י"ב תמוז לימי הגאולה דשנה זו בהצלחה בטבע למעלה מהטבע.

כשהייתי ער"ח מנ"א על ציון כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע, הזכרתיו ואת זוגתו שי' להמצטרך להם ויתברכו בקרוב ממש בזחו"ק.

לפלא קצת שאינו מזכיר במכתבו ממצב בריאות זוג' שתחי', וכמנהג החסידים הישנים ה"ז סימן שהכל כשורה. ובטח במכ' הבא יכתוב ע"ד זה בפירוש, וכן יהי' לבו בטוח וכן לבב זוגתו תחי', שכ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר משפיע ברכה והצלחה לאלו שהם מתעסקים במילוי שליחותו, ושניהם יודיעו בשו"ט בזה.

מוסג"פ ר"ד מה שאמרתי להתלמידים שי' הנוסעים לערי השדה בשליחות החזקת היהדות, ואולי יוכל לנצל זה בענין עבודתו במחנו באופן המתאים.

מהנכון לחקור אם יש במחנו עתון שאפשר יהי' להדפיס בהם מאמרים מה ששייך לעבודתנו בפרט, או בענין של תורה וחסידות בכלל, מובן שאין זה נוגע אם גם יהי' בשפת המדינה, ואדרבה מעלה בדבר שגם עי"ז יתרבו מספר הקוראים וכו'.
