To the distinguished chassid, who fears Hashem,

Rav Chaim Yaakov[1],

Greetings and blessings,

I was pleased to obtain news of you through our friend, the great Rav and distinguished chassid who fears Hashem and devotes himself faithfully to communal needs, Rav Avraham Eliyahu Axelrod[2]. You have, moreover, sent me your contribution to the Maamad*[3] through him.

I am convinced that your participation in the Maamad is not solely financial, but that it is also the expression of your feeling and of your desire to be bound to all that concerns my father-in-law, the Rebbe, who gave of his very own person to implant Torah and Yiddishkeit* throughout the world, and in particular in this country.

Even at the present time, in the expression of the Zohar*, "the tzaddik who has departed this world is found there more than during his lifetime"[4]. He observes all his accomplishments, notes with pleasure that they develop and broaden with success.

For all those who take part in this work and bring their assistance to it, according to their capacity, the tzaddik invokes divine mercy and blesses each one of them in all their needs.

I take this occasion to send you a report of what I said to the talmidim* of the yeshivah, who are using their vacation to visit the communities of this country in order to strengthen their Jewish practice[5]. I hope this will interest you as well. Obviously, you can make use of the idea developed in this report to convince your friends, to draw them closer to Torah and to mitzvos* in general, and to the customs and the ways of chassidus* in particular.

I extend to you my blessing for long days and good years, in the most literal sense and in good health, as well as, in the deeper dimension, long years in good health and filled with the Torah which is light and the candle which is the mitzvah[6].

חילקתי את זה כדלהלן 3 ,חבילות עבור כולל חב״ד בירושלים3 ,

חבילות עבור ישיבת תורת אמת בירושלים ,ו 3-חבילות עבור ישיבת עולי

רוסיא בלוד ,ואת השאר מסרתי לקופה של לשכת המרכז ,עבור העבודה

שנעשית בצפון אפריקה ,שבטח שמע עלי׳ מהרה״ג הכט שיי ,ואמסור לו

]לנמען[ בקצרה על כך:

שבועיים לפני ההסתלקות של כ״ק מו״ח אדמו״ר זצוקללה״ה נבג״מ

זי״ע ,הוא אמר לי ,שהי׳ צריך להתחיל עבודת חינוך הכשר בצפון אפריקה,

שם נמצאת קבוצה גדולה של יהודים -כן ירבו -ויהודים יראים ,והחפצים

בחינוך כשר עבור ילדיהם ,אלא שמפני העניות הגדולה שלהם ,לחלק גדול

מהם אין אפשרות להוכיח זאת.

בהתאם לשאיפתו של כ״ק מו״ח אדמו״ר זצוקללה״ה נבג״מ זי״ע,

נשלח לצפון אפריקה ,זמן קצר לאחר הסתלקותו ,שליח מיוחד להכיר את

המצב במקום,

וכיום ,כבר כמעט שנה מאז ,נפתחו שם מספר ישיבות ,ישיבות קטנות,

תלמודי תורה וחדרים לילדים ולילדות ,ותודה לא-ל הכל הולך בהצלחה רבה,

הילדים מאד מרוצים ,לומדים ומצליחים בלימודים .המניעה היחידה

להרחיב את עבודת החינוך כנדרש ,היא חסרון באמצעים כספיים .והכאב

גדול עוד יותר ,כיון שאמצעי המחי׳ שם זולים ,וכמה דולרים לחודש

מספיקים כדי להכניס עוד ילד לחינוך כשר ,ובכל דולר שנכנס ל״לשכת

המרכז״ ניתנת האפשרות להעמיד נעל רגליו[ עוד ילד יהודי ולחזק את הקשר

שלו לתורה ומצוות ,ושהוא כבר ישאר יהודי אמיתי לכל החיים.

מעניין אותי לדעת אם יש לו קביעות עתים ללמוד תורה ,ובאילו

ספרים ,ובטח שומר את התקנה של כ״ק מו״ח אדמו״ר זצוקללה״ה נבג״מ

זי״ע ,ולומר את שיעור התהלים היומי בכל יום אחרי התפילה ,בלי נדר.

החותם בברכה לאריכות ימים ושנים טובות ,ויוכל לעלות בתורה

ומצוות ובמצות הצדקה בפרט ,ולשמוע ממנו בשורות טובות.
