To the great Rav, of many accomplishments,
from whose lips wisdom is expressed,
Rav E. E. HaCohen [1],
I greet you and bless you.
I am responding to your letter, written at the conclusion of Shabbat* Vayera*.
You ask me to mention your name to my father-in-law, the Rebbe Shlita*, and to transmit to him your request for a blessing. This is what I have done. Our Sages, in the Mechilta*, regarding the verse Shemot* 19:8, say that an emissary must report on his mission to the one who delegated him, even if the latter already knows its outcome. That is why I am writing to you.
Furthermore, the Targum Yerushalmi*, commenting on this verse 8 and the following one, verse 9, adds the expression "in his prayer" [2]. It thus answers the question of the Mechilta: "Did Moshe* need to make known to Hashem the response of the people?" Its explanation differs from the one that interprets this response as the teaching of proper conduct, requiring the one who receives a mission to report on its fulfillment.
But in this case, this problem does not arise, since the one who entrusted the mission might only learn later that it was carried out successfully.

ולהעיר אשר בת"י (שם) הוסיף בשני הפסוקים - פסוק חי"ת וטי"ת - התיבה "בצלו", וי"ל דכוונתו בזה לתרץ הקושיא במכילתא וכי הי' צריך משה להשיב - ודלא כמ"ד ללמדך כו'.
ובנידו"ד אפ"ל דל"פ, כיון דכאן ידיעת המשלח תהי' רק לאחר זמן.
