You have informed me that you celebrated your bar mitzvah*, and you request my blessing[1].

I therefore extend my blessing to you that you should be, in the expression of my father-in-law, the Rebbe, someone who fears Hashem, a chassid, and a lamdan* in Torah. You will cause much satisfaction, a chassidishe nachas*.

My father-in-law, the Rebbe, related that our Rebbeim, when they delivered a chassidic discourse on the occasion of a bar mitzvah, would begin it with the verse: "Let us make man in our image"[2]. Subsequently, when they transmitted the text of this discourse[3], they sometimes omitted this introduction.

Consequently, a bar mitzvah boy must know that he henceforth merits the title of "man," Adam[4], the highest of the four terms which describe him — Adam, Ish[5], Gever[6], Enosh[7] — as the Kuntres Toras HaChassidus*, ch. 7, and the second chapter of the chassidic discourse entitled "Vayavo Amalek" of 5709[8] explain, the latter appearing in fascicle no. 62. One must immediately act in this direction and not put it off to later. Thus, one receives the help of Hashem and becomes Adam, as the Sefer HaToldos*[9] says, on p. 64.

You surely recited a chassidic discourse on the day of your bar mitzvah, and you will adopt the studies that concern everyone — those of the Chumash*, of Tehillim*, and of Tanya*.

במענה על ההודעה אשר נעשית לבר מצוה ובקשת ברכה בשבילך,

הנני בזה להביע ברכתי אשר כלשון כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע תהי' ירא שמים חסיד ולמדן ותשביע רוב נחת חסידישן נחת.

סיפר כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר אשר די בר מצוה מאמרים פלעגט מען (אצל הנשיאים) אנהייבען נעשה אדם (וכשניתן המאמר להעתיק השמיטו לפעמים את ההתחלה).

זאת אומרת אשר הבר מצוה צריך לדעת שעליו מעלת תואר אדם שזהו היותר מעולה בארבעת התוארים אדם איש גבר אנוש (ראה קונטרס תורת החסידות פ"ז. ד"ה ויבוא עמלק תש"ט קונטרס ס"ב פ"ב) וצריך לעבוד בזה תיכף ולא להניח על אחר זמן ואז מסייעין בידו שנעשה אדם (ראה ס' התולדות ע' ס"ד).

בטח חזרת מאמר דא"ח ביום הבר מצוה, ותשמור השיעורים השוים לכל נפש בחומש תהלים תניא.
