To the Rav, distinguished chassid who fears Hashem,

Rav Sh. B. T.[1],

Greetings and blessings,

I am responding to your letter, which was undated.

In my opinion, your business project is a good idea. You know the saying[2] that my father-in-law, the Rebbe, cites in the name of the Rebbe Maharash*: "It is said that one circumvents an obstacle by passing under it, and if that is not possible, by going over it. For my part, I hold that one should from the outset go over it (lechatchilah aribber*)"[3]. Undoubtedly, Hashem will send you success, will grant you material abundance, and you yourself will transform these material goods into spirituality[4].

I enclose herewith a letter for Mr. Newman, with an envelope concerning him. I leave it to you to determine whether it should be handed to him in person or sent to him by mail.

Your son Shimon has just turned fourteen, and on this occasion, I extend my wishes to you that he have yiras Shamayim*, be a chassid and a lamdan*. You yourself and your wife will derive much pleasure and satisfaction (chassidishe nachas*) from him and from your other children.

You surely organized a chassidic farbrengen* during the days of the festival of the liberation[5] and strengthened yourselves in Torah, mitzvos*, and the luminary of the Torah[6]. I would be grateful if you would let me know precisely how it went.

במענה על מכתבו מבלי הוראת זמן כתיבתו,

הנה לפי דעתי נכון הדבר מה שיש ברצונו לעשות אפטאווער געשעפט, וכידוע פתגם כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר בשם כ"ק אדמו"ר מוהר"ש: די וועלט זאגט, אז ווען מען קען ניט ארונטער דארף מען אריבער, און איך זאג, אז מ'דארף לכתחילה אריבער. והשי"ת בטח ישלח לו הצלחה, געבן א סך גשמיות וכת"ר יעשה מהגשמיות רוחניות.

מוסג"פ מכתב למר ניומאן שי' עם מעטפה השייכת אליו, וכבינתו יעשה אם ימסור לו המכתב בעצמו או שישלח לו ע"י הפוסטה.

ליום מלאות ארבע עשרה שנה לבנו שמעון שי', אביע ברכותי שיהי' ירא שמים חסיד ולמדן, וכת"ר וזוג' שי' ירוו ממנו ומשאר ילידיהם שיחיו רב נחת ועונג.

בטח נתוועדו בימי חג הגאולה ונתעוררו להתחזקות בתורה ומצוות ומאור שבתורה, ות"ח אם יודיעני הפרטים שבזה.
