Igrot Kodesh · Letter 110 — From Tishrei Inspiration to Year-Round Torah Outreach

I greet you and bless you.

The discussion we had when we took leave strengthens my hope that you will engage in the domain of holiness, upon your return to your city, with renewed forces emanating from the spiritual life that marks the month of Tishrei*, in general, and the time of our joy [1], in particular. Thus you will begin, in a good and fruitful moment, the new study cycle.

I know how occupied you are with the educational institution you direct. Despite this, based on the discussions we had when you were here, I am convinced that you will dedicate your time and efforts to our work. You will, in particular, make the Sifreinu* known to those who dedicate themselves to education or can influence it. You will distribute the conversations with the youth and write articles or reports about them in the press. It is undoubtedly unnecessary to tell you how to organize your efforts and this distribution. I await your good news in this matter.

We can no longer delay the printing of the calendar [2] and we are therefore sending it to the printer, although we have not yet found a donor. If you could do something in this matter, you would acquire an immense merit. Indeed, this calendar is well received by the youth, upon whom it exercises a considerable influence, as last year's experience has proven.

The verses and citations of our Sages that I introduced into this year's calendar are not the same as last year. Only the laws and customs of the holidays are identical and have of course been maintained. Likewise, last year's presentation has been preserved.

Our Sages, commenting on the Sidra* of this week, note that when an arrow is shot into the air, it falls back toward the ground on its point, that is, its thickest extremity, close to its origin. Two ideas follow from this. On one hand, an arrow, which is a piece of dry wood, cut from its source for a long time, can nevertheless seek to reach it. Furthermore, this piece of wood must receive help in order to obtain such a result. In this case, that help consists of disturbing its rest, lifting it above the ground, and shooting it into the air.

Whoever has the ability must provide this help, in particular those whom Hashem has made good educators.

שלום וברכה!

שיחתנו בעת קחתו את ברכת הפרידה מאמצת את תקותי כי כבו' בשובו לעיר מגורו, בכחות חדשים הנובעים מהחיים הרוחניים בתשרי בכלל ובזמן שמחתנו בפרט, אשר בהם נהנה מדברי כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר שליט"א, נגש כבר למלאכתו מלאכת הקודש, בהתחילו בשטומ"צ את זמן הלמוד החדש.

ואף שברור לפני עד כמה שטרוד הוא בעצם מוסד החנוך העומד תחת הנהלתו, בכ"ז מובטחני ע"פ מה שדברנו בהיותו פה, יתן מזמנו ושימת לבו לעבודתינו הכללית, ובפרט בענין הכרת מהות "ספרנו" בחוגים שיש להם שייכות והשפעה על החנוך, הפצת ה"שמועסן" מאמר או סקירה בעתונים וכיו"ב, ובודאי אינו צריך להוראה באופני התעמולה וההפצה, ונקוה להתבשר מכבו' בשורות טובות בזה.

מבלי שנוכל לדחות יותר את הדפסת ה"לוח" מוסרים אנו אותו לדפוס עוד טרם השגנו מנדב, ובאם יוכל כבו' לעשות עוד דבר מה בזה תהי' לו זכות גדולה בהשפעה האהובה של הלוח על רוח הנוער כפי שהראה לנו הנסיון דאשתקד.

פסוקים מארז"ל וענינים שהכנסתי בלוח דשנה זו אחרים הם מאלו דלוח העבר (לבד הדינים ומנהגי היו"ט וכיו"ב שכמובן באו גם בלוח ההולך ונדפס) צורתו החיצונית כמו זה דשנה העברה.

אמרז"ל בסדרה זו (ב"ר ספנ"ג) זרוק חוטרא לאוירא אעיקר' קאי פי' (כן פי' מהרז"ו במד"ר פ"כ, סכ"ג, ושאר הפי' צע"ק) שנופל וקאי על צד העב שאצל השורש, ולמדנו מזה שני דברים א) שאף שהוא מטה יבש וזה זמן רב שנכרת משרשו בכ"ז אפשר לעורר בו מקורו ושרשו, ב) שצריך המטה סיוע בזה, והסיוע הוא שמפריעין מנוחתו, מגביהין אותו מן הארץ וזורקין אותו באויר, ועל כל אחד כפי יכולתו ובפרט אותם אשר חננם ד' בחוש פדגוגי לעסוק ולהשתדל בסיוע זה.
