B'ezras Hashem,
4 Tammuz 5711,
Brooklyn,
To the Rav, distinguished chassid who fears Hashem,
Rav Nochum Zalman[1],
Greetings and blessings,
I duly received your letter, which was not dated, as well as the request for a brochah which it contained, and which I will read, at an opportune moment, at the tziyun* of my father-in-law, the Rebbe. Without doubt, he will arouse Divine mercy so that the Almighty fulfill the wishes of your heart, and that you may be able to announce good news to me[2] in this matter.
I am pleased that you have acquired additional machines for your factory. You no doubt know the explanation that my father-in-law, the Rebbe, cited in the name of his grandfather, the Rebbe Maharash*: "It is generally considered that one crosses an obstacle by passing under it, and if that is not possible, by passing over it. I, for my part, think that one must go over it from the very outset (lechatchilah aribber)[3]."
Hashem will help you, and from this very moment, will grant you abundance, from His holy and open Hand, in tranquility of spirit and body.
You will find enclosed a shekel from the fund of my father-in-law, the Rebbe. You will use it for the expenses of your factory. Our Sages say that "one who takes a coin from Iyov is blessed." My father-in-law, the Rebbe, emphasizes in this regard that the amount matters little. It suffices to take what belongs to Iyov, including a simple coin, in order to know success.
This shekel comes from the fund of my father-in-law, the Rebbe. It will therefore bring you success for everything that concerns your business.
I would like to know who is your partner and what is the state of his moral progress. You will surely be able to convince him to be also your partner in studying the revealed part of Torah and chassidus*. You will announce good news to me in this domain.
With my brochah for success in your personal affairs and in your communal activities,

[3] That is, in this case, to think big from the outset and not to wait for the need to expand to make itself felt.
