To the Rav, great scholar, distinguished chassid,

of manifold knowledge,

Rav Avrohom Moshe Babad,

Greetings and blessings,

I received in due time your letter of 15 Iyar, by which you intervene on behalf of the Rav, distinguished chassid who fears Hashem, Rav... Indeed, the members of your shul* have chosen him as shochet* and chazzan. His arrival in your city will be of very positive effect on your community[1].

I understand your good intention, which motivated this intervention. You are the Rav of this community and you bear responsibility for it. You must therefore do everything in your power to improve and strengthen the situation of Yiddishkeit* in this place.

For all that, you will surely understand my situation. I cannot ensure the good of one city at the expense of another. Moreover, this person finds himself in ... for several years already and settled there with the agreement of my father-in-law, the Rebbe.

It is for that reason that I wrote to him at the time, explaining to him that he could envisage his move if he found a replacement, capable of taking his succession in his city.

I take this occasion to send you the kuntres[2] which has just appeared, on the occasion of the festival of Shavuos. Without doubt, it will interest you greatly.

I extend to you my brochah for success in your sacred mission.

You no doubt know that a group of shochtim, who are Chabad chassidim*, are now going to spend several months in Ireland[3]. It would surely be good that you meet with them. Perhaps you will find together the means of improving the situation of your city, without it being at the expense of another city, chas v'shalom*.

בעתו קבלתי מכתבו מט"ו אייר ל' למטמונים, בו משתדל עבור הרה"ח וו"ח אי"א וכו' ר'... שנתנו בו אנשי קהלתו עיניהם לבחור בו לשו"ב וש"ץ וכו' וכי בואו למחנם יביא תיקון גדול לאנשי קהלתו וכו'.

הנני מבין היטב רצונו הטוב בהשתדלותו הנ"ל, ובתור מרא דאתרא אשר כל אחריות המקום עליו, נכון שישתדל בכל כחו להטבת והחזקת מצב היהדות במקומו.

אבל מאידך גיסא בטח יבין גם את מצבי, שאין ברשותי לזכות למקום אחר על חשבון מקום אחד, ובפרט אשר בעיר... הרי שם הי' נמצא זה כמה שנים, ובפרט אשר הי' זה בהסכם כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע.

ולכן כתבתי בזמנו להרה"ח וכו' מוה"ר... שבאם ימצא ממלא מקום המתאים בשביל העיר... אזי יוכל להתענין בהעתקה למקום אחר.

בהזדמנות זו הנני שולח לכת"ר הקונט' האחרון שהו"ל הוא הקונטרס לחג השבועות, אשר בטח ימצא בו ענין רב.

בברכת הצלחה בעבודתו בקודש.

בטח ידוע לכת"ר שחבורה מהשו"בים דאנ"ש באים עתה למדינת אירלנד על חדשים אחדים, ואפשר כדאי הי' שיתראה אתם עמם ואולי ביחד יוכלו לטכס עצה איך לתקן המצב במחנה כת"ר מבלי להזיק על ידי זה עיר אחרת ח"ו.
