Greetings and blessings,

I am replying to your letter of Monday of Parshas Shelach, by which you inform me of the state of health of your wife. When I find myself at the tziyun* of my father-in-law, the Rebbe, I will mention her name, and without doubt, he will arouse Divine mercy for her.

She has no doubt received prescriptions from her physician, with which she conforms. I would like to know whether, in addition to what you write about salts and magnesium, you were told anything about a treatment or a procedure.

Hashem "heals all flesh and works wonders," but it is the practice, nevertheless, to follow, to the greatest extent possible — even in the slightest way — the ways of nature. My father-in-law, the Rebbe, related to me on one occasion that a gravely ill man came to consult the Alter Rebbe*, who healed him by giving him a little matzah shemurah* and half a glass of water. It is therefore quite necessary to follow, at least to some extent, the ways of nature[1].

Hashem will fulfill your prayer and your request, so that you may give good news.

You have surely received in due time my preceding letter. I would like to know how your daughter and your son-in-law, the Rav, have settled in. Does the latter still reside in the tent of study[2]?

[1] The Alter Rebbe could have healed him by his blessing alone, without recourse to the matzah and the glass of water.
[2] Does he still have Torah study as his sole occupation?

במענה על מכתבו מב' שלח, שמודיע ממצב בריאות אשתו תחי' הנה כשאהי' על ציון כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע אזכירה ובטח יעורר ר"ר עלי'.

בודאי קיבלה איזה הוראות מהרופא וממלאה אחריהם, ואתענין לדעת אם מלבד מה שכותב בדבר ביטער זאלץ ומאגניזיע, יודע ג"כ על דבר בעשטראלונגען או ע"ד נתוח, כי אף שהוי' רופא כל בשר ומפליא לעשות, אבל בכ"ז מהנהוג שיהי' קצת אחיזה ג"כ בטבע, אף אם דקה מן הדקה וכמו ששמעתי פעם מכ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר, שלאדמו"ר הזקן בא אליו חולה גדול ל"ע, פ"א וריפא אותו בחתיכת מצה שמורה און האלבע גלאז וואסער, הרי שעכ"פ איזה אחיזה בטבע צריך להיות, והשי"ת ישמע תפלתו ובקשתו ויוכל להודיע בשו"ט.

מכתבי הקודם בטח קבל במועדו. אתענין לדעת באיזה אופן הסתדרה בתו תחי' עם חתנו הרב שי' ואם נשאר הוא באהלה של תורה וכו'.
