B'ezras Hashem,

Greetings and blessings,

I hope that, when you are unable to go to shul*, you nevertheless maintain your Torah studies at home. Thus, you will be able, as quickly as possible, to return to shul and participate in the public shiurim*.

You are no doubt aware of the chassidic custom, introduced by the Baal Shem Tov*, which consists in basing one's service of Hashem on simchah*. This manner of acting is much more effective than that which is sustained by the opposite feeling.

It is said that simchah breaks all limitations. When this simchah is in conformity with the will of Hashem, leads to loving Him, to loving the Torah and one's fellow, it permits one to obtain, from the full and open Hand of Hashem, all that is necessary in order to experience it, without taking any other consideration into account.

I hope to receive good news from you, to learn that you are feeling better, that you have returned to shul, as has always been your happy custom.

I conclude by extending to you my brochah for long days and good years — that is, in the literal sense, for a long life in good health, and also that these years be filled with all good. Now, "there is no good but Torah and mitzvos*."

זאת את שיעוריו בלימוד בהיותו בבית ,שזה עצמו עצה וסגולה שבקרוב

מאוד יוכל ללכת לבית הכנסת ללמוד את השיעורים ברבים,

בטח יודע מהמנהג החסידי שהבעל שם טוב הנהיג ,שיעבדו את השם

יתברך בשמחה ,שעל ידי זה אפשר לפעול יותר מאשר ע״י העבודה בצד ההפכי,

כי שמחה פורץ גדר ,וכאשר השמחה היא כפי רצון השם יתברך ,באהבת השם,

אהבת התורה ואהבת ישראל ,אזי נותן הקב״ה מ Tו המלאה הפתוחה

הקדושה והרחבה ,שיהי׳ ממה לשמוח ללא חשבונות מיותרים.

הנני מצפה לבשורה טובה ממנו שבריאותו השתפרה והוא ממשיך

ללכת לבית הכנסת ,כמנהגו הטוב.

ואחתום בברכה לאריכות ימים ושנים טובות ,שהפירוש כפול:

כפשוטו ,שנים ארוכות ובריאות ,ובנוסף לכך ,שהשנים באמת טובות

ומלאות בטוב ,ואין טוב אלא תורה ומצוה.
