To the great Rav, distinguished chassid who fears Hashem,

Rav Sholom[1],

Greetings and blessings,

I duly received your letter of 11 Sivan, and I learned with pleasure that you have succeeded, at least partially, in setting in order your study of Torah. You also intervened so that the mikveh* be operational. It is difficult to imagine how important all this is. You know what the She'eilos U'Teshuvos Min HaShamayim and the Likkutei Torah* say in this regard, at the end of the maamar* entitled "Tachas."[2] You will also consult the collection found at the end of the Siddur Meah She'arim, on page 45, and other references besides.

You tell me that you are striving to convince your best students to "go into exile to a place of Torah"[3]. This is particularly judicious. Obviously, if it is impossible to persuade them to come to New York, it is surely positive, in a first stage, that they go to the yeshivah* of Chicago. Subsequently, certain among them will surely come to New York.

With my brochah that you may bring to fruition your sacred mission with success, in expansiveness, and that you find a match suitable for you, materially and spiritually, in the very near future,

קבלתי מכתבו מי"א סיון, ונעים לראות בו אשר עכ"פ במקצת סידר כבר סדר הלימוד שלו, וגם אשר סידר בענין המקוה, אשר כבד לשער גדול הענין בזה. וידוע מ"ש בשו"ת מן השמים, בלקו"ת סד"ה תחת אשר לא עבדת כו' (להעיר מקובץ שבסי' מאה שערים ע' מה) ובכ"מ...

נכון הדבר במאד, מה שמשתדל עם הת' המצוינים שלו שיסכימו להיות גולה למקום תורה, ומובן אשר באם אי אפשר לפעול שיסעו לניו[י]ארק, הרי עכ"פ כדאי בודאי, בכדי אויף דורכברעכן די וועג, שיסעו עכ"פ לישיבה לשיקאגא, ואח"כ בודאי ישתלשל הדבר שאחדים מהם יבואו ג"כ לנויארק...
