Igrot Kodesh · Letter 106 — Reaching Every Jew — The Tanya's Call to Unconditional Love

To the dear and faithful Chassid, Rabbi Y. Katz [1]

I greet you and bless you,

In response to your letter on the occasion of the new year, which reached me only on the eve of Yom Kippur, in the afternoon, which explains the delay of my response, I would like to tell you that one who gives a blessing receives one himself, the most important there is, morally and spiritually, in a visible and tangible good.

You have no doubt received in its time my letter of 10 Menachem Av [2].

For various reasons, the printing of the Rebbe's talks during Pesach 5703 was delayed until now. On one hand, my father-in-law, the Rebbe Shlita, made many additions to the text of his words, which is therefore, quantitatively and qualitatively, more substantial than the original project. Furthermore, we wished the printing to be very beautiful.

The booklet was brought back today from the bindery and I have asked that some copies be sent to you by separate package, in addition to the one I enclose with my letter. Please let me know how many additional copies you wish to receive.

I take this opportunity to express to you once again my thanks, on behalf of all those who will read and study these commentaries. Thanks to you and to our friend, Rabbi Sh. Palmer [3], the realization of this booklet was made possible.

Our Sages enjoin us to be disciples of Aharon* [4], to love the creatures and to bring them closer to the Torah. The Alter Rebbe* specifies, in the Tanya*, that one must show one's love also toward those who, being distant from the Torah of Hashem and from His service, can only be called creatures [5]. And perhaps this love will be able to bring them closer to the Torah and to the service of Hashem.

In this sense, a talk of the Rebbe [6] provides what his discourse does not. The scholar and the one versed in study will be motivated to the service of Hashem by learning it. But, moreover, the simple man and those who are nothing more than creatures will be able, thanks to some ideas discussed therein, to come closer to the Torah, to Hashem, and to His service.

Realizing such a rapprochement is the mission of the portion of Aharon that is found in every Jew and this mission is incumbent more specifically upon his descendants, the Kohanim*.

I conclude by wishing you a joyous festival, immediate Teshuvah and immediate redemption,

במענה על מכתבו לשנה הבע"ל (הגיעתני רק ערב יום הכפורים אחרי הצהרים, ולכן נתאחר המענה שלי).

הנה כל המברך יתברך בברכות מאליפות למעלה מעלה בנפש וגוף בטוב הנראה והנגלה.

מכתבי מיום י' מנ"א בודאי קבל במועדו.

מפני כמה סיבות נתאחר גמר הדפסת שיחת חג הפסח תש"ג עד עתה. ואחת הסיבות היא אשר כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר שליט"א הוסיף על השיחה כהנה וכהנה וגדלה באיכותה וכמותה מאשר שערנו מראש. ועוד סיבה, אשר רצינו שתהי' החוברת בתכלית ההידור.

היום סוף סוף הביאוה מבית הכורך וצויתי לשלוח לכבו' איזה עקז' בחבילה מיוחדת (מלבד המוסגר בזה). ובבקשה להודיע עוד כמה עקז' לשלוח לו.

בהזדמנות זו הנני מביע לו עוד הפעם את תודתי בשם כל אלו אשר יקראו וילמדו שיחה זו, על אשר הודות לו, ביחד עם הוו"ח אי"א נכבד ונעלה מהר"ש שי' פאלמער, היתה האפשרות להדפיס חוברת זו.

אמרו רז"ל (אבות פ"א מי"ב) הוי מתלמידיו של אהרן כו' אוהב את הבריות ומקרבן לתורה. ופירש רבינו הזקן בתניא (פל"ב) שאף הרחוקים מתורת ה' ועבודתו ולכן נקראים בשם בריות בעלמא צריך למשכן בחבלי עבותות אהבה וכולי האי ואולי יוכל לקרבן לתורה ועבודת ה'.

וזהו מה שיש ב"שיחה" מה שאין ב"מאמר", שנוסף על זה אשר הלמדן ויודע ספר יתעורר על ידה, הרי אפילו איש הפשוט וגם בריות בעלמא אפשר לקרבן לתורת ה' ולעבודתו על ידי כמה מהענינים המדוברים בשיחה.

ולפעול קירוב זה בפרט, זהו מעבודת בחי' אהרן הנמצא בכל אחד מישראל, ובפרט בבני בניו הכהנים.
