Igrot Kodesh · Letter 1041 — Prayer
Volume 4 · Letter 277
By the grace of Hashem,
9 Sivan 5711,
Brooklyn,
To the Rav, distinguished chassid* who has yiras Shamayim*, Rav Kalman Nachum[1],
Greetings and blessings,
I had news of you with pleasure. I was particularly satisfied that you devote yourself to communal needs in your city. You will kindly transmit my regards and my blessing to all those who have lent their collaboration to you or who will do so. May Hashem grant success to each one of them in all their needs, and you will be able to announce good news to me in this matter.
By separate package, I send you a collection of the sichos* of my father-in-law, the Rebbe. Thus, at an auspicious moment — for example, during seudah shlishis* of Shabbos* or on the occasion of a festival — you will find the means to transmit the content of the sichos* that are printed there to the greatest number. One finds, in this work, ideas for every category of audience, from the greatest scholars to the simplest persons.
Such is precisely the definition of truth[2], in particular that of our Torah, the Torah of truth. Truth is identical from one end to the other, as chapter 13 of the Tanya* briefly explains.
I would like to know what public Torah shiurim* are given in your shul*. Doubtless you have also adopted the practice instituted by my father-in-law, the Rebbe, which consists of reading each day Tehillim*, according to its monthly division, after davening.
This is in addition to the studies to which each one commits himself, on a personal basis: that, also daily, of the passage of Chumash* with Rashi's* commentary — on Sunday from the beginning of the sidra* to sheini, on Monday until shlishi, and so on; that, also, of the Tanya*, according to its annual division, as the study guide indicates[3].
I greet your entire kehilla* and address my blessing to you to receive material and spiritual good. I await your good news, and "there is no good but Torah and mitzvos*."
