Igrot Kodesh · Letter 1030 — Pre-Shavuos Blessing

To the Rav, great scholar, chassid* who has yiras Shamayim* and is distinguished by his good conduct, Sage of great renown, possessing broad knowledge, Rav Ben Tzion Meir Chai Uziel, Rishon Letzion[1],

Greetings and blessings,

On the occasion of the time of the giving of our Torah, which is approaching, I address my blessing to you that you may receive the Torah with joy and depth, on the morrow of the seventh Shabbos*[2], as our Sages interpret this expression and according to its literal meaning, which corresponds to the calendar of this year[3].

Chassidus*, in the Likkutei Torah* of the Alter Rebbe*, author of the Tanya*, in Parshas Emor, in the maamar* entitled "And He raised the hand," beginning of chapter 2, explains that the "morrow of the Shabbos" designates that which possesses a holiness higher than Shabbos*, that is, the Encompassing Light, issued from Bina*, the Attribute of reasoned analysis. From it one draws the strength to count the Omer*, as the Zohar* explains, vol. 3, page 96a.

I know that you appreciate the commentaries on the Torah and the sichos* of my father-in-law, the Rebbe. I therefore send you the kuntres* edited on the occasion of the festival of Shavuos*, this year, which has just appeared.

[2] That is, of the seventh week of the Omer, the period that separates Pesach from Shavuos.
[3] The first day of Pesach was then a Shabbos, and the count of the Omer therefore began on a Sunday, the first day of the week. The seven weeks of the Omer were thus counted in the natural order, from Sunday to Shabbos.
